Well, it’s me Demonica again…your resident Fan Girl and Head Demon in Charge, or better known as Kim Dimension, and I’m back with another comic review. Currently I have been hooked on reading Hack/Slash by Tim Seeley. I love Tim’s work with my main girl Cassie Hack. Who doesn’t love an ass kicking hero, especially when she is a girl? So, I just finished reading Hack/Slash Omnibus 3 and as usual, it left me wanting more. Thanks Tim for creating such a great character, it makes this girl proud to know that us females have a place in the slasher’s world.

 

I loved the last chapter titled, “The Living Corpse Annual #1: Guest Starring Hack/Slash” – It was written by Ken Haeser. Such a fan of the style that Buz Hasson & Ken Haeser’s draw Cassie, it borders on Japanese Anime, but still comes off classy and clean. The colors are vibrant and detail is given to everything, such great world they created.

Why is it that all young couples always seem to find trouble when they go into the woods to get some action? Can’t kids find another place to go for sex? Like an abandoned cabin…oh wait, that might be bad…how about when your Parents leave? Nah, bad idea on that one too. Geez, with all the evil that lurks in the woods, don’t you know that the woods are almost certain death? Still it still makes a great backdrop for this story.

Having The Living Corpse with Hack only makes it more interesting. We quickly learn that Cassie and Corpse are old friends….. imagine friends like them? Then throwing the Jersey Devil into the mix makes it more enjoyable. Vlad and Cassie get to take down the Jersey Devil, or should I say…beat the hell out of him! Vlad stumbles into The Living Corpse, or just Corpse as his friends call him (*wink). Corpse didn’t know Vlad, resulting in a fisticuffs’ meet up, cut short by Cassie, as she comes to Vlad’s rescue.

Corpse realizes that it is the one and only Cassie Hack (my note- let’s see these guys together again, big fan of these two together). As Cassie & Corpse begin to catch up, the Jersey Devil’s mother, who now is less than happy about the death of her little one, comes after them. We quickly discover Mrs. Devil’s ability, I will call it “Winged Demon Vagina Assault”, unleashes holy hell upon our heroes. It takes Vlad’s smart thinking to take down the mother of the Jersey Devil. Corpse as a tampon?…hmmm, interesting. Corpse, the victor, is now covered in the end trails of the mother and the woods are yet again safe for pre-adolescent, unsafe sex. Can’t wait to read more from The Living Corpse & Hack/Slash characters. Maybe someday, they will get to meet again…..I will hold my breath if it will help!

Demonica gets Re-Animated with a mini- review of Hack/Slash Omnibus 2

It’s Demonica, the head demon in charge over at NecroCOMICon TV. We have been working hard on getting the new show and season under way. I think everyone is going to be happy and surprised, so tell your friends!

This is my first comic review and I decided to write about my favorite comic series, entitled Hack/Slash. Hack/Slash was being released by Devil's Due Publishing but recently switched to Image Comics, plus starting in February will become monthly again. 

Hack/Slash features Cassandra Hack, (or Cassie for short) and her lovable sidekick Vlad. Vlad protects and helps Cassie in her quest to help those in need and kill serial slashers. Serial killers are a mix of those that return from the dead to continue to kill or even the crazed killers that we are so familiar with, which leads me to this review. I just finished Hack/Slash Omnibus 2, even though this retails for $30, it is well worth it. Great stories and some amazing art. I wanted to talk a bit about the Cassie & Vlad Meet the Re-Animator story arc, I'm a big fan of Herbert West (who doesn't love Jeffrey Combs) so this only made sense to be my first...oh, Mr. Combs..be gentle :)

Originally released as issues #15-17, our hero, poor Cassie Hack, is now without her mother or father. Well, she really was for most of the first 2 Omnibus’ but, I got excited when she found her father toward the end of the 2nd Omnibus. They didn’t even get a day together before Dr. West brought back her mother too. 

In a perfect world, things really start out great. Her mom & Dad together again, they head to a nearby motel, but their love doesn’t last. As they are in bed together, Mrs. Hack starts to become deformed again, into the lunch lady (which is the fat older version of Delilah Hack) that went on a rampage killing hopeless teens that teased her daughter (read the early stuff, it's great...even My 1st Maniac trade, which comes out Dec 8th is fantastic!). Mrs. Hack doesn’t want Jack to see her this way, she decides she needs to make some of the of the stew that Dr. West used to make her alive and beautiful again. So Delilah kills the first person she sees and starts to prepare the stew as Jack calls Cassie to warn her and to have her bring Dr. West to the motel. 

Delilah begins to sense trouble. As she turns of Jack, she stabs him in the stomach. Shortly after, Cassie arrives with Dr. West & Vlad as Jack stumbles to them. Cassie asks Vlad to save her father as she goes to deal with her mother. With the help of Dr. West they decompose Delilah back to a corpse. When Cassie goes to check on her father, Vlad tells her that he died. Dr. West offers Cassie the last vial of the regenator stuff. Cassie took the last vial and smashed it. She didn’t want to bring him back that way. Truly a sad ending, as Cassie leaves with Vlad an orphan, I was really pulling for her. 

Hack/Slash is definitely my favorite comic book thus far. The violence, gore, and sexual content makes me need Hack/Slash Omnibus 3 on Wednesday.

Well another week of comic book reading and movie watching has come to a close. I figured I would share what I am reading, what looks good and what I saw for the week. This way I can cover a few mini opinionated reviews and not be stuck for a long drawn out blog. As you can tell by my picture (on the left) I am very excited with this weeks reading material. I spent this week grabbing some older trades, re reading some and regretting not picking up others sooner. On a whole, this weeks stash was very good.

The Walking Dead - I had read issues here and there and never really got wrapped into the story as much as I should. For me, comic reading is like phases, some weeks I enjoy The Red Hulk stuff (the last year has been very good Hulk reading), while other weeks I might grab some off title that no one gives a chance too. Robert Kirkman had really grabbed my attention with Marvel Zombie trades 1 & 2 plus Dead Days, so I had to go back and read The Walking Dead series (currently issue #71 is in stores). Like all comics, it's never to late to jump in, so I wanted to read about the Zombie Apocalypse, I'm a sucker for love stories. 

The story follows a group of survivors though-out the ordeal, problems on the road, how they survive but what intrigues me the most, the topic that hardly anyone talks about ..... the social issues. How people within your group cope with death, if they can mentally handle what's going on around them. Kirkman does a fantastic job touching on those issues, feeding you the minor details that get you wrapped up within the story and the characters. Very smart writing, makes the good guys likable and the bad guys, not...very simple, yet hard to achieve for many. 

I am 1/2 way through the 2nd Hardback and have set myself a mission to ingest as much as I can to get current. I still have Hardbacks 3 & 4 sitting here and will hopefully be done with those by the end of next week. So, if you haven't read comic in a while and want to check something out, go grab the 1st trade of the Walking Dead by Image, it retails for $9.99 and is worth every penny.

Yep, another trade I slept on...Hack/Slash. Devils Due Publishing puts this one out (currently issue #31 is out) and was pretty big in 2008 but I always just kind of wrote it off and another, cute girl, no storyline comic...man, I was wayyy wrong. Filled with plenty of slasher material that would make any horror fan happy, Hack/Slash delivers the goods on more than one level.

The story follows Cassie Hack, a social misfit whose own Mother murdered for the sake of her daughter's feelings, on a quest to take out the bad and evil slashers. Accompanied by her trusty, equally freakish sidekick, Vlad, Cassie roams from town to town and gives you plenty of adventure, hot scenes that make any fanboys glasses fog up and some laugh out loud moments. Paying tribute to many horror icons today, I spotted a Troma sticker, a few mentions of other pop culture Icons and even a side story with Chucky (yup..the crazy, murderous Good Guys doll). 

I grabbed the Omnibus Volume 1, think a larger trade paperback with numerous chapters, that retails for $34.99 but is full of tons of reading. I can't recommend this one enough. I think fans of Troma, bad B movies and well, lonely nerds world wide will enjoy this one... especially the nerds (like me) since Cassie wears very little. Ladies and Gents..there is a new ass-kicker of slashers and her name is Cassie Hack.

On to the other comics I grabbed for the week - I will admit, it was rather light for me this week. Only so much time in my days for comics and the two mentioned above have taken over...

• Siege #1 - I went back and want to read this, since people are pimping it to me. Norman Osborn was Marvel's go to villain last year and it continues on here. Claiming his new identity as the Iron Patriot, Norman has assembled his own Avengers Initiative and is set to take down Asgard. I have never been a big fan of Thor or Loki, as they are just too wordy for me. But, so far I am enjoying this one...there are only 4 in the series and it isn't too hard to just jump right in. So go check it out! If you wanted to be even more caught up, check out The Dark Avengers series.

• Fall of the Hulks #1 Alpha - I grabbed this simply because within the last year, anything pertaining to the Red Hulk/Green Hulk war has been pretty fun. The smart Hulk vs The Dumb one...equally as powerful, blah, blah, blah...this comic is more of a set up story. Plenty of super villains, I just can't get enough of Doom lately..he is so BA, plenty of back ground knowledge to get you set for the remainder issues. I look forward to reading more about this...the plan of capturing the World's smartest is never an easy task.
