Life in 2014 and what I've learned

Life in 2014 and what I've learned

This is when I look back to 2014 and recollect all the good. 2014 was a fantastic year...honestly. Life, friends and projects went great. My mind was opened and I found, me. I don't believe in making "Best of" or "Worst of" lists...after all, they're all opinions.

I look back and realize as the year went on, I became more introverted as I became more busy. Online life became lower and lower on my "to do" list, daily. I wrote more, I created more and I felt invigorated. My interests shifted. I am discovered myself. My style changed. I have grown. I let hate go and removed those who have yet to discover what's important.

I look forward to releasing Rabbit Hole as well as Boob Tube in March and I know, they won't be for everyone and I'm 100% comfortable with that. I appreciate all the support and love I have received. I was able to work with great people like Mike O'Mahony, Adam Ahlbrandt, Matt Barnes (who has become my partner in multiple ventures this year and a great friend), Combat Zone Wrestling and so many other impactful and loving people.

Professional Wrestling had left my life, but 2014 it returned. My son started his own Journey. I realized how much I love being behind the camera. I loved being able to create and "make things happen". I thank those who have believed in me and my visions and/or odd thoughts.

Discovery was my biggest accomplishment in 2014. Life is what you make of it. I wrote several scripts, ideas and things that interested me. I realized creating isn't about what others what, its about what YOU want. I grew in 2014 and I look forward to 2015 as I plan to push forward and make for me. I hope you are there.

Thank you!

Surrounded by a great support system, including a great training facility and an array of multi talented individuals who are "lifers" within the sport, offering life lessons and guidance along the way, Curt is determined. Additional steps will follow, including preparing for an exhibition match and debuting against wrestling legend, Steve Corino. This is his 1st Step:

Hard to keep up...where you been?

Hard to keep up...where you been?

Ok...so I've been busy...no seriously!! My life over the last several months has been nonstop...hey, good thing, right? Sure.

My life isn't normal..what ever that is. It's hectic. This past summer, my son, Rob and I spent a majority of the summer months on the road, in my car. Matt and I have been filming a lot and editing!!

I was pitched an idea to to film some of my son's training to become a professional wrestler. This has become a documentary and that has been great and rewarding. Being able to see the lengths he's gone through over the last 4 months has been great. Reigniting my love for wrestling has also been fun. For those who don't know, I've taken a position within Combat Zone Wrestling handling some of their creative and production. This has occupied a good deal of time but also allows me to remain creative.

What does that mean? Well, it has hurt my own personal production some. I finally realized I need to dedicate some time to myself, daily to continue to creative process in filmmaking. Some one asked "Why do you always talk about movies?" My honest answer "Its my passion." It's truly where my heart is. Some people want different things in life.....I was recommended several years ago, when I was going to therapy to write a list of the top 3 things in my life, based on importance. So I did that list -

1. My Family
2. Filmmaking
3. Wrestling

Then I was told, look at that list and see if those who you listed would include you on their list. Man, thats some harsh reality. Sometimes you lose sight of the list, so you must look at the order and make decisions to keep things in check. Over the summer, somethings on the list got shifted around, but then I woke up and made changes and here I am.

What does this entire blog mean? It just means that my goals and dreams are still down that hallway...I still see the light. I still see my loves....my passions...my dreams.

Pro Wrestling - Learning to Edit Your Own Promos

Pro Wrestling - Learning to Edit Your Own Promos

Hey guys, I came across a story today that WWE had brought in an acting coach into NXT (their developmental program). This speaks volumes to me as someone within the entertainment industry. WWE knows exactly what they are doing...sure..we can all complain about their lazy booking at times but let's face facts: They are always gravitating more towards entertainment and less on wrestling. Sadly, for some of us who love the sport based on what we grew up on, this pales in comparison to our memories but its the hard fact.

I wanted to discuss something that you can do, as an performer, is learning the simple basics of filming your own promos. Without getting into the rules I tend to stick with about the actual promo itself, let's discuss some methods to make your promo better.

Often you're asked to provide a promo before appearing at a company as a fresh talent and you are basically, on your own. In today's world we have technology at our finger tips and the ability to film promos and edit primarily on our phones. For example, I used iMovie recently and it really looked great. It's less than $10 for the app and can be used easily on an iPhone.

Having this luxury is a huge asset but is also a huge risk if not done properly. How many times have you watched a promo done on a phone and felt like "This doesn't look very professional"? I'm sure a lot.

Here are some tips or tricks to help create some buzz:

Angle - the angle you film the promo can virtually hold the viewers attention a bit longer than a standard, static tripod shot. You can frame exactly what you want in the shot and what you don't want.  Bane looks bad ass...right?

Music - having a track that is upbeat or more or less, tells the story for your character again is a great way to hold the attention span of the viewer and help deliver the message in a positive way and look like you have quality and value, which in turn could net more cash.

Color and Filters - I'm a fan of color correcting or using a built in feature that alters the coloring of the film itself. Raw footage shows a lot of flaws and like noted earlier, the lighting might not be desired. Again, this creates a value and makes you look like a professional.

I know these are very easy, basic tips but I think most times we feel rushed to "hurry up and get it done" instead of taking a minute and wanting the best result possible. I am in the process of writing a guide that will explain a very in-depth look at Promos from both sides of the camera and how everyone can improve, that will be taught at seminars soon.
