Movies You Should Watch - Zeiram

So lately I've been enjoying re-watching or discovering some great Japanese cinema, usually of the over the top gory with some insane action, but still too me, great cinema. I stumbled across the Zeiram series in 1999 and instantly became a fan.

The action, the story, the characters and Yuko Moriyama. I'd be lying if I didn't mention how much of a crush I have on Yuko. She plays a very confident alien bounty hunter who has come to Earth to do battle with the indestructible Zeiram creature.

The story telling in both, parts 1 and 2, are really superb. Great action plus what an amazing soundtrack. The original even spawned an anime prequel titled Iria: Zeiram The Animation. I encourage people to step outside the comfort zone and give something like these films a try. I always liken this to a Terminator style film, but with some ridiculous creatures. Of course you get some "accidental" problems when people show up, communications don't work or things get a bit weird (especially when things pop from Zeiram's chest), but I can't help but enjoy the fun I have when watching these.


Both movies are available on 1 dvd set on Amazon and worth the $13 price tag. Hey, people complain Hollywood is out of ideas right? You're tired that Hollywood is so blah...well, here is an option.

Life in 2014 and what I've learned

This is when I look back to 2014 and recollect all the good. 2014 was a fantastic year...honestly. Life, friends and projects went great. My mind was opened and I found, me. I don't believe in making "Best of" or "Worst of" lists...after all, they're all opinions.  

I look back and realize as the year went on, I became more introverted as I became more busy. Online life became lower and lower on my "to do" list, daily. I wrote more, I created more and I felt invigorated. My interests shifted. I am discovered myself. My style changed. I have grown. I let hate go and removed those who have yet to discover what's important.

I look forward to releasing Rabbit Hole as well as Boob Tube in March and I know, they won't be for everyone and I'm 100% comfortable with that. I appreciate all the support and love I have received. I was able to work with great people like Mike O'Mahony, Adam Ahlbrandt, Matt Barnes (who has become my partner in multiple ventures this year and a great friend), Combat Zone Wrestling and so many other impactful and loving people. 

Professional Wrestling had left my life, but 2014 it returned. My son started his own Journey. I realized how much I love being behind the camera. I loved being able to create and "make things happen". I thank those who have believed in me and my visions and/or odd thoughts. 

Discovery was my biggest accomplishment in 2014. Life is what you make of it. I wrote several scripts, ideas and things that interested me. I realized creating isn't about what others what, its about what YOU want. I grew in 2014 and I look forward to 2015 as I plan to push forward and make for me. I hope you are there.

Quackers gets a Director...or TWO!!

Quackers gets a Director...or TWO!!

Co-creators Buz Hasson and Rob Dimension had a meeting this weekend, while being guests at Monster-Mania Con weekend in Hunt Valley, MD, and plenty was accomplished for QUACKERS. The inspiration for the QUACKERS character was sketched out and we are moving forward.

Buz is the co-creator of the Living Corpse comic book series with Ken Haeser. The duo have been working hard getting the Corpse out there. You might have seen the Living Corpse film in your local Redbox, and from what I've been told...it's only the beginning. Ken, with Corpse colorist and inker, Blair Smith were guest at the Pittsburgh Comic Con this past weekend.

Rob Dimension took a minute to sit down and discuss the synopsis and who will be behind the lens for QUACKERS. 

"Just coming off of BAGGAGE (which is racking up film festival appearances) has me on cloud nine. I set out to create a perfect team and I feel like we really involved some of the best in their fields. For QUACKERS, I felt it was important to do the same. I talked to our cinematography team from BAGGAGE; Jeffery Scott Gould and Steve Adams about my next project.

Jeff and I have worked on a few projects together and he has over twenty five years of experience behind the camera. He knows how to make the space within the shot to be interesting. His partner Steve, whom was just as important to the shot making for BAGGAGE, really proved himself to me. He made great suggestions to solve problems with some shots and was fantastic. Jeff is more of a classic horror fan, while Steve has some more twisted thoughts...so together they create a horror encyclopedia of creative shots, smooth camera work and know how to set the mood perfectly. 

It's with great pleasure that I announce that Jeffrey Scott Gould and Steve Adams will co-direct QUACKERS. I'm expecting a smooth filming with a lot of preparation. Both are very professional and want to make the best film possible. I'm excited to start this project with the both of them."

Dimension also gave us the synopsis : QUACKERS is the story of a struggling independent comic book writer and artist named Sterling Quack. As a child, Sterling was given a stuffed duck who inspired him to write the children's comic "Quackers". Lately, Sterling has noticed that kids today want violence and sex in their comics, two things that Sterling doesn't write about. As he prepares for the next day of writing, he lays his blank comic book panels out only to wake up and discover the next day; they're done!! Quackers is now performing violent acts on the pages..but who did it???

QUACKERS will begin crowd-funding in mid-January and production will begin in March of 2014. Stay tuned.

Reaching the Masses

Writing is therapeutic for some...maybe it is for me. It's like me thinking out loud and plus, this allows me to keep some in the know of what's going on. Recently I've been wondering how I can break that glass ceiling that allows a bigger circle of people know what I'm doing....this is no easy task.

The old saying about how hard work pays off...and nothing in life is easy...the person who said those things was probably an independent filmmaker. 

Btw...Independent Filmmaker is a term I kind of hate. Sure, I write, act and make movies...I don't do it Independently...it's all done with people's support. Their is nothing Independent about it. Sure, I know the real meaning but it just seems when I say that, I'm leaving a lot of people out. I'm not sure what to call myself...I'm working on it.

back to the therapy...

So my most recent struggle is how to tell more people. I consider myself pretty smart when it comes to promotion and marketing...but I'm puzzled.

Here is where I'm at:

Obvious Movie Maker

Money - I have none...haha...truth. the money I have went to filming and yes, marketing at conventions and film festivals. As anyone can tell you that vends at conventions..this is NOT CHEAP. I was planning on attending a few cons out in the middle states and with driving, hotel and food...it's about a $1,000 weekend. Sure, I'd make some back but no where near what I would like. At this stage of our growth, we can't absorb a $500 loss. Instead, we are focusing on better flyers to hand out, better representation for ourselves, better merchandise and trying the make the best impact we can with what we have. 

Advertising - this is a doozy...seriously. Let's say we have $200 to spend in the month of July to promote our newest film "baggage". Well, let's face facts...It's a short film and most of the "bigger" news sites are going to ignore it based on it not being a feature...sure we've been fortunate to have some very positive press (and those sites have been generous and I'm extremely grateful) but, you always want more people to notice. I'm making short films because I need to learn to crawl before I can run...jumping into a project and losing thousands of dollars is simply immature and being naive to think I was ready.

I turned to the people and asked questions like " What about promoting my posts on Facebook?", "When you visit the news sites...do you click on the ads?"....sadly...I found no solution. As silly as it is...I tend to look in the Horror magazines and read the ads there. They have a better chance for me to look up a site from them, than anywhere. We all know that $200 ain't gonna get much :)

Where does that leave me? Well....scraping with the rest of the bunch. Working hard and trying my best...that's all I can do. Trust me when I say this...We are working hard to bring the best we can. With each project, we will get better and after "baggage" we will be moving forward on a feature film. The time is now and I feel we have the absolute best team I could ask for.

Until them...it's Guerrilla Marketing and hanging in the trenches to battle everyday. Thanks to those who are always positive and believing in us.

As I scroll through my Facebook feed today, I can't tell you how sad it makes me. People have become so critical of everything and I think it will only become worse. Granted, this is only MY opinion....some will agree, some won't and that's ok.

I think we have lost the process of understanding that we have an opinion. Making such a bold statement as "If you liked the Walking Dead's finale, please unfriend me" really is kind of shocking to me. You're basing your friendships on if someone liked a Tv show? This can't be serious....right? (I will make another blog about why I believed that the season finale of the Walking Dead worked for me later). Honestly, those that make those statements make it easy for me to see who I will be unfriending this week.

I used to love reviewing films and there was a time when I felt my opinion mattered but one day I woke up and realized that what I like, you might not...that certainly doesn't mean you have bad taste or you're an awful person. Not everyone is the same, which is a great thing. You feel that a great Saturday night might be a warm cup of tea, watching the Notebook, cuddled up next to your loved one...while for me...it might be a Coke, watching some Horror movie, playing UNO with my Wife and kids...which is better? Everyone is different...some enjoy partying, some enjoy romance...everyone different.

Let's get this straight...there is no such thing as a professional opinion. Sure, there are people who are paid to review, that are well versed in the subject and are amazing writers but it is still just an opinion. Obviously, I trust a lot of different people's opinions and words of advice in life or profession, but the bottom line...you have to be your own judge. You can only decide what you like and enjoy. I think this is something that you learn as you grow older and see life...maybe not..I don't know. It just seems as life continues and I start to progress through my 40's I begin to worry about less about the nonsense and do more for me...after all, at the end of the day, it's my life, my thoughts and my happiness. This certainly isn't a self-entitlment issue for me, just a free thinking entitlement. 

I can honestly say, a critics review of a film has NEVER swayed me from watching something I want to see (most recently, the Texas Chainsaw remake as an example...still went and was still sad). I do though, whole heartily agree that several strong reviews do create hype and even I fall victim to it. Let's look at two movies I'm hyped for - Evil Dead and Pacific Rim..both are getting raving reviews and it does make me extremely eager to see them. At the end of the day...regardless of what anyone says, I would still stand in line, spend my $14 and go watch them both. Will I sing their praises if they're amazing?? Of course!! Will I blast them if they are bad?? Of course!! It's the internet and I have a voice too...BUT, I won't ever say "If you liked or disliked these movies..we aren't friends anymore"...(maybe jokingly I might). 

This is my blog post to plead for society to stop taking their opinion too seriously. Sure, real life beliefs are on an entirely different scale, but we are talking about movies and Tv here....pure silliness and full of make believe. Have a great week!

"baggage" is a story that Rob Dimension has been sitting on for over two years now. While eating lunch together, Sal Valente made mention to Rob about a simple premise, this simple premise has blossomed and grown in a full fledged project. Dimension, fresh off the success of the award winning film "No Clowning Around"; another short film he wrote, starred and co-directed, has worked hard to bring fresh life to the Horror genre. Dimension is no stranger to the horror community, from the TV show "Late Night at the Horror Hotel" to blogging and reviews, even to podcasting, he has stood behind so many filmmakers trying to shine a light on the grass roots level; The Independents.

After the gritty feel of No Clowning Around, Dimension wanted to focus on "the complete opposite" and "baggage" was born. Submitting the script to Jeremiah Kipp, a director that Dimension has praised for nearly two years, was a personal risk but came with an amazing reward. Jeremiah responded almost immediately and was on board. Jeremiah had this to say: "baggage immediately captured my interest as a beautiful and macabre tale of a man haunted by desire.  It’s got the feverish melancholy intensity of an Edgar Allan Poe story, but told in a modern and transgressive way.  Every image should resonate with the beauty of a painting, but one where if you look at it too closely, you realize you’re caught up in the swirls of a nightmare."

Kipp is currently involved with the "In Fear of" webseries along with countless other films like Crestfallen, Contact and Easy Prey to name just a few. The Cinematographer for "baggage" will be Jeffrey Gould, from Action Media Productions (http://www.actionmedia.tv). Jeff has an extensive background in film and has added great chemistry to the team. We are extremely happy to have Jeff and his team a part of this project. 

Also, Associate Producer Bill Wilusz will be leading the Behind the Scenes video package that will be included with the DVD release. Bill has also written, starred and produced his own films (Prey and Demon Hunters) so we are sure this inside look into the making will be a can't miss!

Jealousy and why it doesn't work

Being in entertainment, I have felt jealousy and dealt with jealousy. Jealousy is really just our own insecurities coming to the surface. It could be fueled by someone doing something similar, maybe something that's done better or sometimes it's just because "I wish I thought of it first". I have dealt with it but as you get older you quickly realize...jealousy just gets in the way. Focusing on a negative doesn't work...ever.

Let me use this as an example - I see some filmmakers just outright blasting others or not supporting, based on jealousy. Now, having said that, let's also note that some people are assholes and shouldn't be supported. On the flip side, I encourage a lot of people to make movies and make them better. Why? Because as a fan of the Horror genre I WANT things better. I almost feel that on an Independent level we are sometimes cast aside or even ignored because of the subpar quality work that has been done...but...let's also not forget those that have laid the ground work for people to become better. There is a huge difference between bad and working with what was available at the time. A good eye is still a good eye, regardless.

It pains me when I don't see a lot of filmmakers working together, even supporting each others projects. Maybe because I started as a reviewer and made it common practice to promote others. Just being negative or talking down others to hope elevate yourself is a lose, lose situation. It draws negative attention to yourself while making the genre pool look bad. I handle this the way I handled my reviews...if I'm not a fan, I opt to not talk about it..but if I AM a fan, then I will gladly help promote it. Standing on the sidelines, being jealous will never accomplish anything. 

Other people have podcasts..some better some worse...other people have short films, some amazing stuff, some just thrown together in their backyard. I want people to elevate their game...it only helps everyone. It pushes others to be better...isn't that what you want? Don't you, as a creator what to be the best you can be? That's what I want. I will always support those who support others. I will always be there to pat them on the back when they've done as great job...even if it's not needed. Negativity just hampers things...sure, it's natural, but let's work harder to raise the bar. I want to be my best, I want to work with others that have the same goal...I want to be positive.

Anyways..that's my rant for the day...go be your best!

Yesterday, Rob Dimension joined by award winning Director Jeremiah Kipp and the film crew of Action Media Productions (Jeff Gould and Bill Wilusz) and shot some promotional footage in New Jersey for the upcoming short film, baggage. 

In the upcoming video, Kipp and Dimension spoke briefly about the background of the story, the usage of the term baggage with how it relates to everyday life and how they have started the process. Later this week, the video will be released along with various perks to help fund the short film. Also, cast will be announced and more info about the story. This is the start of something great and we can't wait for you to see where this ends up.

Ok gang, here's the scoop...as you may have heard (after numerous postings) our award winning Horror/Drama short film "No Clowning Around" is premiering on Saturday, March 9th, at Monster-Mania Con in Cherry Hill, NJ. It will be screening in Grand Ballroom C at 1pm. Brian Mitchell, whom did the artwork for No Clowning Around is offering 20, limited edition posters for free to the first 20 people in for the screening. 

Rob and Kim Dimension will be manning the booth, located in the Vendors Room on Friday and Saturday only. Rob will be hosting the Yorkie Auction followed by the Sinister Short film festival right after. Co-director Matthew Burd will be at the table on Saturday, as will Steve Corino (12-3pm only). This is your chance to come grab your dvd, have it signed and support an Independent film at ground level. We could not be happier. 

Dimension will also dress as Mumbles the Clown on Saturday from 4-7pm only. He would LOVE to get a picture with YOU. Come see Mumbles, everyone's favorite clown.

Read My Script?

First, let me say this "I'm just a depressed nerd, who watches a lot of movies". With that being said, I hope that takes my credibility away from people asking me to read their scripts, treatments or ideas. As of late, a lot of people have been asking me to read or give my impressions about their ideas, but, I just can't...let me explain.

I can only speak from my own personal journey - From writing out story-lines in pro wrestling, to working as a writer on my own TV show to, most recently, writing my own film...I sat and wrote and shared with no one until I was ready. I often have no rhyme or reason in writing, nor am I a professional in any way. As I write, I might run a few jokes or ideas past my wife but she typically will just listen, nod and go with the flow. We've been together long enough, she knows how I just bounce ideas around and sometimes hearing them out-loud, helps me decide if it's good or not. Most often, I write about things that are on my mind, or might even entertain myself. I'm way to low on the ladder to worry about entertaining others. Maybe that is my lack of self esteem talking, but I just don't have enough reach to worry about an imaginary mass of followers that I don't have..haha. I truly appreciate every word of advice, every compliment and even the negatives that people have to say, but you have to create for you!

When someone asks me for advice, I say the same thing I will say here : Stop procrastinating and start doing. Believe in yourself and work towards getting something done. If you're relying on someone else, you will not make it. Don't let things get in your way, don't take No for an answer and help make your own luck.


The biggest part of of me not reading anyone's work is simply this - The last thing I want is to be influenced by your work or ideas or even worse, dismiss your hopes or dreams. Believe it or not, even if nothing happens, I'm working on scripts, treatments and ideas all the time. You must be careful who you share your ideas with...while I sit here and tell you the truth, so many others will lie to you. This just protects me and you. Don't take it as "being too big" or "unwilling to help" because that's far from the truth. I will offer advice about film crews, maybe point you in the direction of someone else that can help your dream become a reality but it's YOUR dream and your project,  it's YOUR idea...make sure you remember that.The satisfaction you will feel once you've reached your goal will be that much better.


Self Check Time - So, before you send off your ideas to someone else...are you just looking for someone to do all the work so you can have the easy way out? It's a legit question and requires you to be honest with yourself. There is no easy way to accomplish anything. It will require your attention, your love and a lot of times a lot of money. The options are out there, from self publishing to making your own movie to anything you want. Indiegogo and Kickstarter exist for a reason, LuLu is out there...so many options but it just isn't easy and it's a long, lonely road sometimes...but when you succeed, it's great.


Remember, my opinion matters no more than yours. Who am I too tell you if your idea is "dumb" or "won't work"? Do for you...it's a new year, maybe it's YOUR year! If anything, I hope you have an idea, read this and decide that you're ready to create.

Ted reviewed by someone who talks to Puppets

Let me start this review off by saying "Hi, my name is Rob..and some of my best friends are puppets!" Anyone that has followed the nonsense I have done over the last 3-4 years has seen plenty of puppets insulting me and it's almost become something that I enjoy. Weird right? 

I missed the theatrical release of Ted, I wanted to see it, but just got sidetracked. Seth MacFarlane is the guy behind this little gem, plus he's the man responsible for the Family Guy series. First, Family Guy and me, we have this love/hate relationship...I go through times that I watch it, like obsessively...while other times, just not having it. Seth's sense of humor is not for everyone; he crosses lines he shouldn't often but also shows his true nerd love for films and TV shows. He has made tributes to Star Wars that I have loved, in fact, some that are nearly shot for shot duplicates. Let's talk about Ted....shall we?

Ted, in a nut shell, is the story about a boy who makes a wish that his Teddy Bear would come to life. He does...except now, it's like twenty years later. It's rude, crude and is a thoughtless film that made me laugh out loud countless times in under two hours. Ted, voiced by MacFarlane is basically Peter Griffin, but unrated and given the opportunity to bring potty humor though the mouth of a teddy bear, which just makes me smile...probably for all the wrong reasons.

I'm not going to sit and critique Mark Wahlberg or Mila Kunis acting, let's be for real about it...it doesn't matter. They were fine. Mila was hot, Mark was his Boston self...great job...moving on...the film is about buddies and sharing a love for something!!

Let me say this "I fkn LOVE Flash Gordon and Sam Jones!!" Chances are, if you weren't a big Sci-fi nerd or didn't grow up during the eighties, a lot of the Flash Gordon referencing will go over your head and will not interest you. For me, Flash Gordon was a staple of my life...sure you could say, it falls into the "so bad it's good" category but, it's so much more than that. Flash Gordon will never be duplicated, it fell into place at the right time period. Ming was a bad ass, his daughter was hot, Flash saved the Universe! Back to Ted.

Ted and John (Wahlberg) understand Flash Gordon, it's a bonding topic and memory for them. This film really hits upon the Flash love, for this alone....I LOVED this movie. First, if you haven't seen Flash Gordon, go grab the DVD and watch it. Second, watch Ted right after it. Third, message me and tell me how right I am. Sam Jones marrying you and your bride?? Are you serious? Regardless of what Kim wants, it would totally happen. The essence of this review is really my love for Flash Gordon...haha.

Look, Ted will not be for everyone. Some people won't get it...it's all good. Those Flash Gordon fans will love it..It has some heartfelt moments, a silly plot but damn it...I Loved it!!
