New Podcast for 2015!

New Podcast for 2015!

Started in 2011

I started podcasting on my own network in early 2011...whew...seems like forever ago. I started as a Horror-ible podcast, went to the XOC with Steve Corino and the recent bunch of shows with Matt Barnes on the Shock and Wrestling.

I like to think I was ahead of the curve when it comes to podcasting. We started with a cheap microphone being held up by a cup...(legit) and I moved forward to increase production through trial and error. I love looking back at the evolution.

That being said, I, myself am always evolving. I tend to lean towards comedy and talking about passion. Over time my passion changes, my happiness changed. Right now, I'm as happy as I've ever been. I have worked hard to make films, be creative and keep working towards the future.

Where does this leave us now? On Dec 31st, I realized I am once again evolving. I'm tired of lack of effort on some things in my creative output. The podcast sometimes suffers because I don't plan ahead and prepare. That needs to change. I no longer want to "wing it" and hope for something good to come from it. Most podcasts do that. I'm better than that.

As much as I love wrestling...I hate talking about it. I LOVE filmmaking and being creative. It's my passion and what makes me happy. I love developing ideas from paper to putting them as content online or in film form. Doesn't matter if it's audio or visual. I just want to create.

Where am I now? Well, as I was editing the latest podcast I messaged Matt and said "we need to change". I hated the last episode. It was just lazy...I know it take balls to admit to yourself that you're putting out lazy, un motivated material but I'm my toughest critic. I would rather talk about what I love and have listeners that are truly invested in what we are discussing, then have people tune in to hear me shit on how bad Raw was. It just doesn't satisfy me and as producer and it's not fair to you.

I have some ideas I'm working on for something new. Some new ideas and content. A better way to produce things and want to capture passion again. It's no longer going to be me venting about hate and rehashing the truth, but more about discovery. Hopefully, you guys will be more inclined to listen and be part of it.

Thanks again for listening.

Small Business Marketing found in weird spot!

Small Business Marketing found in weird spot!

Let's face it, I am a small business. I am a film maker, writer and actor. I host several podcasts, host events and take a lot of shit.... so I need a way to let people know what I'm are up too. The biggest question is - how do I do that?

I always claim to be the "Social Media Whore" or some sort of social media expert, but just like you, I am always trying to find the best way to get the message out. Social Media is the tip of the iceberg and like I've said so many times before, it's not the only way.

Several months ago, I took a chance on a new podcast to listen too (honestly, I listen to a lot to up my game and see what's out there). Being a comedy fan, I was aimed in the direction of "Connected Comedy". Quite frankly, I really want to be a stand up comedian and I figured this show might give me insight to get out of the shadows and do something...but upon listening...I found out more than I could ever hope for. (btw..I'm still lurking in the shadow's)

The "Connected Comedy Podcast" is really a tool for comedians that are looking for ways to promote themselves and they discuss countless avenues to take to reach what path you're looking for. From email marketing to having exactly what you should have on a business card. Better way to design a website and things to add, that really help push what you want pushed. Help with bookings, dealing with promoters and how to host your own event. Online marketing..the list goes on and on.

For instance, I'm using one of their recommendations now, taking a minute and writing more. Sure, it doesn't seem like much but if it drives one new person to follow me on twitter, possible listen to my podcasts or even buy my movie, then how great of a chance it that? Like I've said, the podcast is aimed at comedians but it's so much more than that. Each week I listen, I learn something else...seriously. Josh Spector, Jordan Cooper, Chelsie Rice and Josh Homer plus the rest of the crew often debate and question each other's methods, often bringing up more good ideas to try.

So, for all you that ask me the best way to promote yourself...here is a FREE podcast to listen too & take advantage of. It's well worth the listen, seriously, regardless of what you do. This caters to all forms of entertainment and small business and is a valuable listen. Can't recommend enough.

Their podcast is the same name on iTunes

XOC - Round Two?

Extreme Odd Couple Podcast
Round Two?

Well, for the last four months the airwaves have been quiet, the white flags were raised and things seemed to have ceased. For 50 episodes Steve Corino and Rob Dimension did their best to entertain anyone who would listen. The Extreme Odd Couple Podcast was a hit, having nearly 25,000 listeners per week and both Steve and Rob felt the time was over, so they packed up their microphones, their hatred and sarcasm and went silent on Nov 16th of last year.

Many people asked "When will you guys return?". Corino and Dimension would simply respond with "It's over". Too be honest, the duo stopped talking, the friendship ceased and the twitter war was over...until NOW. A spark was lit and an idea was hatched. Corino had this to say "We need seasons like any kind of show. I want to break the show into seasons, meaning we will record Twenty episodes, then take a six to eight week break. Just like Baseball, we need time to refresh and live for more stories." Dimension added "It's tough to stay fresh, especially when we talk everyday. You run out of things to talk about and the last thing we want is for the show to be blah."

When we last left the guys, Dimension and Corino's lives had changed. Dimension released his first film and walked away from Pro Wrestling forever. Corino moved away from Rob and is about to make a lifestyle change, he will become married! If there was ever a point in these guys lives where they were complete opposites, it's NOW.

What can we expect? Probably a lot of insults, a few life lessons and a lot of laughs. Corino and Dimension announced that end of March, beginning of May will be the start of Season 2 of the XOC. You wanted the return...we can only hope, you're ready.

Success vs The Not

Success vs The Unsuccessful

I came across this chart/poster that inspired me to write. I often wonder what to classify myself as; since I write almost daily, we will stick with writer. Lately I have been working on my future...when I say that, I mean what will this year hold? Sure, across the last few months I've written out goals for this year but sometimes, things happen and they change the path you follow.

Now, looking at this chart, I can only speak for myself. I can look at both sides and say to myself "I want to be successful". What does that mean? Success can have countless meanings...if you follow this blog, I've written a lot of positives that I've come across. I've shared my personal life on my podcasts and interviews. I sometimes think it's a challenge to get better, so if I put it out there, I now have to work harder to be better. I've never been one to sit and whine about what I should be getting, I just continue forward, work harder and believe in myself.

I've been fortunate, I've been a published writer, online and in magazine print. I've performed on television live and in front of over 10,000 people (and kept my cool). I've developed a podcast following, from both the Extreme Odd Couple Podcast and now Monster-Mania Radio, plus recently, I've written, starred and produced my own film. Were any of things handed to me? Nope...and that's what makes me the happiest. The difference is, Am I satisfied? Nope.

When looking at the chart, some, including myself have said I'm a little of both. I can agree with that. Let's see what I feel I work the hardest at : Giving Gratitude - I always am thankful for opportunities. Giving Credit - look at any of my articles or even this site, I also am the first to say, I had help and who helped me. Talk about Ideas - constantly, I even have a list of ideas in my phone. I am always thinking of something new and working things out. Share Info and Data - yep, can't tell you how many times I helped people start their own podcasts. Why would I not? Want Others to Succeed - Yepper - look at all my reviews..I share constantly and have no problem with it. As for film making as an example, the battle isn't about each other, we are all in the battle to get Independents more recognition. Accept Responsibility for My Failures - I sure do! Blaming others will get you no where fast. It's the truth. Accept it for what it is..and move on. Our show Late Night at the Horror Hotel failed due to poor planning, poor choices and it can sit on my shoulders. I'm accepting of that. Forgive Others - this is a tough one, as everyone wants to hold a grudge. I can say this - if you burn the bridge between us, my decision making about things having you involved will be different for the future. I've given people plenty of second chances...call me gullible. Most times, I just move forward and worry about me...but it can be hard at times.

Now, what do I need to work harder on? Fly by the Seat of my Pants - hahaha...who hasn't? I think as I've gotten older, I strive to put plans into motion but I think sometimes, it just happens. Watch TV Everyday - No doubt about it...I am a TV junkie. I watch a lot of movies...but, honestly, in a lot of instances, I am trying to learn. I look for new camera angles, the use of shadow, how people edit, placement of shot or even how one movie pulls me in more than another.

Someone had mentioned - Keeping a Journal - well, I consider this blog as my journal. I often write about a thought, an inspiration, reviews, personal experiences or whatever. Also, I podcast...this is where I have shared everything with complete strangers. The nearly 30,000 listeners that I can't thank enough, get to hear me talk about Horror, my life, share times with my best friend and even my own failures. I have no problem with passing along info. I've gotten emails from people that have said "Rob, your talks about marriage helped saved my own marriage". Or even people asking for advice. My response is simple "Be the best you can be...believe in yourself." I didn't help save anything..YOU helped save it..if you didn't want it saved, it wouldn't have been.

I encourage people to look at the chart, don't focus on one or two specifics...focus on the general idea of being a better person.

Monster-Mania 23 weekend recap!

Monster-Mania 23 weekend recap!

Well, chalk up another Monster-Mania in the books...and what a weekend it was! On Friday morning, Kim and I load up the car for Hunt Valley, MD and start our yearly trip to be amongst the fellow horror fanatics. This Monster-Mania had some level of nerves built in for me, unlike those before it.

Promoter Dave Hagan, my partner on the Monster-Mania Radio show, pulled me aside a few days before and said "I think you should dress as Mumbles for the con." Mumbles is the character from our film "No Clowning Around" and is already developing a life of his own (he even has a Twitter nowhttp://www.twitter.com/mumblesclown). Our purpose, Matthew Burd (co-director) and I, was to get a feel for the films trailer. We figure, we'll show it, hopefully it will go well and we can unleash it to everyone else right after. Here is where the nerves kick in...imagine this, I'm dressing as a clown that no one knows, promoting a movie that no one knows and I'm just hoping people come to my table. Talk about a possible punch to your confidence level!

Jamie Kennedy & Mumbles

Kim and I get to the hotel and I head downstairs to search out Dave and find out where our table is. We see we are next to Jeremy London and Jamie Kennedy. I figure Kennedy will have a good line, so I'm excited. Plus, I'm a big Jamie Kennedy fan...so this makes the nerd in me; Happy!

We go back upstairs to the room and I start with the "Mumbles Transformation. When I started doing the clown paint, it took me about an hour and 15 minutes, now, I'm down to about 45 minutes. Kim was right there to help; I can't apply the eye liners, so that's all her job. I get finished and head down stairs about 4:45, with doors opening at 5pm.

I think it's odd that I seem normal to be dressed as a clown in a sea of people, yet no one really notices or cares...haha...only sat Monster-Mania. I instantly start to mess with people I know, yet they don't know me. I start to take pictures as con goers are "curious". Matt gets there with the trailer and we start to show it.......now, I'm really nervous. I feel very exposed and hopeful. As more and more people start to watch, I start to feel really good. A lot of positives and people anticipating the release (December by the way).

Life of the Party

After we have a very successful night of promoting, we head to the VIP Party. The VIP Party was poppin!! Heather Langenkamp and Amanda Wyss are tearing up the dance floor, and having a total blast. I hadn't eaten all day, so if you listen to Monster-Mania Radio, you know I was at the all you can eat Ice Cream bar. Regardless of what people think, clown shoes are no joke. My feet were dead, so Kim and I head upstairs and get some rest...or so we thought.

The bed vs. Me = the bed wins!! I just couldn't sleep at all..I struggled, even breaking into several swearing outbursts!!

Anyways, back to Monster-Mania in the morning...no more clown, just me. Kim and I run across the street to Wegman's and get some breakfast and get to the table. Kim stops to buy me a 9' Frankenstein from Mezco and the NECA Battle Damaged Jason figures for me...she knows me too well. She grabs a small Leatherface for her desk at work. Thanks to Amok Time Toys!!

As people are wandering around, it makes me happy to see people wearing "Mumbles the Clown" t-shirts and more are coming to the table to see the trailer. It's getting close to 2pm and I'm scheduled to host the Q7A's, a job that I absolutely love. My first Q&A is Jeremy London and I'm a HUGE Mallrats fan, so we are ready to roll!!

Gunnar, Marylin Burns & Me

When hosting the Q&A's...I always try to keep it together. I write notes so I can cover for the dreaded "No Question" dead periods when the audience has nothing to ask. I always get nervous, since the worst thing to happen is being 10 minutes into the session and then we have nothing but silence.

John Kassir, was awesome to sit with. When you're sitting on stage with the Crypt Keeper, how can you NOT be happy? Watching him for years and meeting him was great. He shared a lot of stories and did a lot of voices. I think he could have spoken for 2 hours and no one would have complained.

Next was an odd pairing of Traci Lords, Patricia Tallman and Camille Keaton, but they were all fantastic. I made sure I fit in my Roseanne question to Traci Lords...haha. Camille Keaton appreciated that I mentioned her work in the ToeTag Pictures film, Sella Turcica. Plus, I shared a quiet moment with Patricia Tallman where I explained how I truly feel that the 1990 Night of the Living Dead remake is the greatest remake of all time. Patricia Tallman was someone I've always wanted to meet, so doing so just completed my weekend.

Me, Dave Hagan & the Nightmare Girls

The next Q&A was the Texas Chainsaw Panel with Gunnar Hansen (Leatherface) and Marylin Burns (Sally the survivor) and this might have been the panel I was looking forward too the most. Gunnar is probably one of the nicest guys to ever meet, plus, Marylin is so sweet. I was so happy to share an hour with them. I think the biggest benefit of hosting the panels is being able to be a fan for a minute and ask a few questions. It really means so much, I can never thank Dave enough for giving me the opportunity, it's just incredible. Anyways, Gunnar and Marylin share how hard it was for them and the amount of embarrassment that came with this film. Closing in on 40 years old, they now realize how important the film is too us fans. They were so awesome.

Up next, Dave stopped in and asked if I wanted to host a panel together. I always say I would love too...I probably pester him about it..haha. I just think he's a great host and it was special to me to share that with him. The good flow seems to stop...as a Lady brings in 3 kids into this panel and they weren't real happy. It puts the convention in a bad spot, at least in my opinion. You want everyone who pays to be able to enjoy the panels, but they were disruptive...it happens and was handled great. The Nightmare Girls were Tuesday Knight, Lisa Wilcox, Amanda Wyss and Heather LangenKamp. They were fantastic to say the least..they all shared their memories and had everyone smiling.

Dimension & Jamie Kennedy

Dave allows me to close out Monster-Mania with hosting the panel with Jamie Kennedy and I really was looking forward too it.

I'm a big fan of Jamie Kennedy for a different reason than Scream or other film roles, I wanted to talk about Heckler! Heckler is a documentray Kennedy did that discusses heckling in comedy but more importantly, he confronts people that talk shit online. I applaud that...seriously.

He was a true professional and was perfectly comfortable talking about everything. He talked good and bad things, he experiences and was a riot. I can't thank him enough for being so great. If you didn't stay for this one...you really missed some great stuff. Jamie Kennedy made me a fan for life after watching him all weekend with every fan and how he handled everything. Nothing but positives.

In closing, thank you to everyone who stopped by our table. Thank you to everyone who supports Monster-Mania, behind the scenes, it means more to people than you'll ever know. I'm already looking forward to March 8-10th in Cherry Hill, NJ as it's Dave and companies 10th Anniversary! Thanks again guys, you made this a weekend to remember!!

On The Radar for this week - Dec 5th

On The Radar

Since my time is often pre-occupied with the Podcasts, I have a little bit of time to write and share my thoughts( I really miss writing, I need to do it more often). I thought it might be fun to write about what I'm doing this week....so here we go.

If you listen to the Podcasts, you know I have been going crazy with Super Nintendo and the Original Nintendo Entertainment System. My son, BroccoliRob dug out the SNES and we were instantly rehooked...it's crazy how much fun the older games are..bad graphics, small glitches..I just love it.

As for the Original NES, I had forgotten how finicky that system is..yes, I'm aware, I'm under 60 and just said the word Finicky. The reset button blinks, the slight moving of the games while in the system...almost not making any sudden movements to ensure the safety of the system.

My favorite game thus far is Donkey Kong, especially because of my love for "King of Kong", that chronicles the battle between Gaming Icon Billy Mitchell and Underdog Steve Weibe. If you have not seen that film, check it out..it's fun. But, back to DK, man, what memories of playing this game in the arcade..but my biggest complaint is the board schemes on the NES compared to the Arcade system. The hammers are in different spots and it's totally missing the Bakery Conveyor belt level. I love this game though...so much so, I'm trying to talk Kim into buying a real Arcade version...imagine how little she would have to deal with me then. For those wondering my skill level...it's ok, but in time...I shall master the game. I looked up the World Record via Twin Galaxies, and it's close to 3.5 million....to me, that seems like a TON. We all have our secret missions.

On the movie watching homefront, I've been overloading on a BUNCH of different types of films..not just the standard intake of Horror but a plethora of other fun titles. Have you guys ever been followed by a movie for almost your entire life, yet you were always unsure if you liked it?

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not crazy...when I say "followed" by a movie, I simply mean, having it always pop up in unexpected places or catching it at odd times, possibly mid way throught it. That film for me is the 1981 "Neighbors" with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. I have never been able to decide if I liked this movie or not, but last night I saw the light...well...sort of...

Synopsis - One man's quiet suburban life takes a sickening lurch for the worse when a young couple move into the deserted house next door. From the word go it is obvious these are not the quiet professional types who *should* be living in such a nice street. As more and more unbelievable events unfold, our hero starts to question his own sanity... and those of his family.

What makes this film so peculiar (Peculiar has been become one of my favorite words as of late..no reason) is the switch in character portrayals...Belushi is Earl, the everyday, normal guy with a normal wife...until Vic and his wife, the sexy Ramona move in nextdoor...almost instantly, its an awkward, uneasy film. I believe this type of humor is not for everyone...as the "awkward humor" has become more acceptible with shows like "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "The Office" laughing all the way to the bank. This film was far too early to be accepted like that.

The crazy thing about this movie...no real dvd release...nothing significant about the film can be found...are they trying to erase this movie from our database...well..they can't erase me dammit!! "Neighbors" is worth a 2nd look, no doubt. Sadly, the most talked about part of the film was Belushi's releapse into drug use, dying just 4 short months after it's release. I've never been a big John Belushi fan, Animal House was fun, his time on SNL was great but this might be my favorite film/project he has done....hey, it's my opinion and I'm the writer!!

Neighbors is on Crackle, which is a free movie site, I recommend it. Can I also say, Cathy Moriarty is insanely sexy in this film...man, a few of the predicaments she places good ole' Earl in, it would have been hard to resist. So go check it out.

Thats it for now! Keep listening to the Podcasts, as always, thanks for the support.
