Our Haul of the Week! Aug 31st
Our Haul of the Week! Aug 31st
This was an interesting week of grabs, just based on the variety of items. I started to go back and add some older issues of G-Fan magazine that I once had. If you aren't familiar with G-Fan, this is a magazine thats dedicated to Godzilla, plus all other Kaiju and Tokusatsu types of films from Japan (mostly). In the magazine, they often discuss history, toys and upcoming films.
We ordered 7 back issues this week, or should I say, 7 issues of love. These issues consisted around the years 1999 and 2000. This was when we had our retail store and we actually we advertising in G-Fan, so I wanted to retain these issues because, after a move and closing our store, they were lost in the shuffle. Some sentimental value there.
The Spirit Halloween store opened up and while Kim and I were out, we just had to stop in. I will be the 1st to admit that these stores have become so commercial, I rarely end up with anything from these places anymore. Now, because they had just opened, they had tons of costumes, masks and all kinds of cool additions that would allow you to celebrate Halloween the entire year. All Kim and I ended up with was a few pairs of socks: for me Red Power Rangers, for her Sharks and Pink Power Rangers. We still supported them but we'd also rather support the little guys for things to decorate our house with.
On Saturday we also attended our pal, Chris's soft opening for his store Panther Comics in Washington Township, NJ. Kim and I, of course went with hopes for new Godzilla merchandise that we don't have but desperately need (haha). Chris didn't have a lot, but he had a few things and one thing in particular grabbed Kim's attention. The Medicom Godzilla: Vinyl Wars - First Godzilla (Shodai-Goji) Sofubi vinyl figure. You can see by the picture that he's holding a train, which is pretty sick. This is a reissue from the 2003 line, but is still limited to 200. We are happy to have him as now permanently in our humble abode.
As for DVD's this week, well a lot more of the crazy of course, but some classics too. Some of my classic Godzilla films went missing so little by little, at an average of $5 each, we have been replacing them. I grabbed : Terror of MechaGodzilla and Ghidorah The Three Headed Monster. Both dvds have the original Japanese versions and English dubs. Then, for horror, I finally got a copy of Stacy, which I love just because of the comedic look at horror it has. If you're an Evil Dead fan, make sure you grab this for sure...it'll bring a smile to your face. Lastly, I replaced my copy of Meatball Machine. This is purely insanity and a lot of fun.
To round out the weekend, Kim dragged me to Yankee Candle for their Fall/Halloween releases. This was the 1st time I had been a part of a Yankee Candle seasonal release (I never even knew what that was before this weekend). Kim explained that they had some special Halloween scents, and to be quite honest, I do enjoy a good candle (currently Cotton Candy is my favorite) burning while I'm writing. Nothing better.
So, I was game and we headed to YC, but apparently this is a big deal as old ladies and young women were pushing and shoving to get these candles. We actually got more than the picture shows as they were buy 1, get 1 free. I now know Kim has a candle weakness as she jumped in, fists flying and came out we some groovy cool items. A pumpkin candy dish, several Candy Corn candles, including one mixed with Buttercream (its so hard to not just eat these things) and lastly a candle holder, in the shape of a witches hand. Since Fall and the Halloween season are our legitimate favorites, I guess she figured we'd stock up for the year.

Movies You Should Watch - Zeiram
Movies You Should Watch - Zeiram
So lately I've been enjoying re-watching or discovering some great Japanese cinema, usually of the over the top gory with some insane action, but still too me, great cinema. I stumbled across the Zeiram series in 1999 and instantly became a fan.
The action, the story, the characters and Yuko Moriyama. I'd be lying if I didn't mention how much of a crush I have on Yuko. She plays a very confident alien bounty hunter who has come to Earth to do battle with the indestructible Zeiram creature.
The story telling in both, parts 1 and 2, are really superb. Great action plus what an amazing soundtrack. The original even spawned an anime prequel titled Iria: Zeiram The Animation. I encourage people to step outside the comfort zone and give something like these films a try. I always liken this to a Terminator style film, but with some ridiculous creatures. Of course you get some "accidental" problems when people show up, communications don't work or things get a bit weird (especially when things pop from Zeiram's chest), but I can't help but enjoy the fun I have when watching these.
Both movies are available on 1 dvd set on Amazon and worth the $13 price tag. Hey, people complain Hollywood is out of ideas right? You're tired that Hollywood is so blah...well, here is an option.

Peeking in the WWE's Legends House Episode 1
Peeking in the WWE's Legends House Episode 1
Since day one I have been raving about WWE Network and all footage they have been streaming. We have all heard about the original program titled Legends House. Legends House has been in the can for some time and features some of the greatest WWE veterans and Hall of Famers, mostly known from the popular times of wrestling, the 1980's.
I will admit, I was extremely hesitant about watching this show. One, we all have to think "well, is this scripted?", or "what if this makes our heroes look really bad?" plus, how will this measure up with the other WWE reality based program Total Divas? Total Divas has become one of my favorite shows...something about seeing some drama behind close doors, even if they might be helped in making stories happen.
One thing you notice early on, these guys still have some sort of bond of brotherhood. Its great too see guys like Tony Atlas, Hillbilly Jim, Pat Patterson (especially as you see him cook) and Howard Finkle run around a tennis court. Plus, seeing Mean Gene is always a great thing, he is someone I feel like added to the 80's more than he gets credit for. Jimmy Hart experiencing old man bladder and Hacksaw Jim Duggan busting Roddy Piper's balls about a not figuring out a blender. It was a fun first episode, and trust me, I was worried about how these guys would be represented.
This episode featured an appearance by Hollywood actor, Gary Busey. Busey teaches mediation in a very unorthodox style, then sits and talks with the guys..which creates some tense moments. It was interesting to hear Gary drop an analogy about walking away from the spotlight and Piper quickly spun it around and shut him down. The "spotlight" for them is never off.
The stand out moment was towards the end of the episode that shows how off the wall Roddy Piper is. His inability to sit still and pace like a caged animal. What will happen next? All I can say, I enjoyed this episode and felt like it could be a lot of fun. How much truth will be in the show? Who knows...but I will be watching.

Winter Soldier...Fun Film, Great Cinematography
Winter Soldier...Fun Film, Great Cinematography
Hey guys, just got back from seeing the new Captain America: Winter Soldier film and I have to say, what an experience. We made the decision to see this in IMAX and really get a grand scale look at the action...completely the best option.
Instead of a normal, paint by the numbers review of Captain America: Winter Soldier I thought I would compliment and highlight the look from a different perspective....visuals.
When I say visuals I mean Cinematography. Cinematography is really a fine art in filmmaking that sometimes is ignored. It really can enhance the viewing experience. Making the background more interesting, creating a full visual experience. Camera movements that create a flow and keep the story progressing, even though nothing, possibly is being said at the time.
In my later years, especially the filmmaking ones, I have really realized the difference between a good film and a great film is not just the story, its so much more. We, the viewer can be sucked into the film with motion, action, tension and even shakiness of camera work and set design. The little details are what can elevate a film. (Keep in mind, this is just my opinion...right or wrong in yours)
Ok, so Winter Soldier will probably never be revered as a filmmaking masterpiece but you what? Why not?? Because its a comic book film? I can honestly say that I felt captivated throughout the entire movie. So much effort was taken into each shot, keeping things moving, working or interesting not just as a focal point. The background design was flawless. The camera movements, while some may say "Unmotivated", really worked to this movies impact.
Hard to believe, I'm looking at a Marvel film with such an open eye, congratulating them on a job well done with everything but the story. The story was great. Great acting, great characters and this, above every other Marvel film I've seen to date, is now at the top of my list. This is why I'm a comic book fan, this is why I love seeing the comics I loved as a child now on screen and this is why I love making movies.
Will the purists love it? No idea...but I had a blast. Hail Hydra!!

Everyone's a Critic.
Everyone's a Critic.
As I scroll through my Facebook feed today, I can't tell you how sad it makes me. People have become so critical of everything and I think it will only become worse. Granted, this is only MY opinion....some will agree, some won't and that's ok.
I think we have lost the process of understanding that we have an opinion. Making such a bold statement as "If you liked the Walking Dead's finale, please unfriend me" really is kind of shocking to me. You're basing your friendships on if someone liked a Tv show? This can't be serious....right? (I will make another blog about why I believed that the season finale of the Walking Dead worked for me later). Honestly, those that make those statements make it easy for me to see who I will be unfriending this week.
I used to love reviewing films and there was a time when I felt my opinion mattered but one day I woke up and realized that what I like, you might not...that certainly doesn't mean you have bad taste or you're an awful person. Not everyone is the same, which is a great thing. You feel that a great Saturday night might be a warm cup of tea, watching the Notebook, cuddled up next to your loved one...while for me...it might be a Coke, watching some Horror movie, playing UNO with my Wife and kids...which is better? Everyone is different...some enjoy partying, some enjoy romance...everyone different.
Let's get this straight...there is no such thing as a professional opinion. Sure, there are people who are paid to review, that are well versed in the subject and are amazing writers but it is still just an opinion. Obviously, I trust a lot of different people's opinions and words of advice in life or profession, but the bottom line...you have to be your own judge. You can only decide what you like and enjoy. I think this is something that you learn as you grow older and see life...maybe not..I don't know. It just seems as life continues and I start to progress through my 40's I begin to worry about less about the nonsense and do more for me...after all, at the end of the day, it's my life, my thoughts and my happiness. This certainly isn't a self-entitlment issue for me, just a free thinking entitlement.
I can honestly say, a critics review of a film has NEVER swayed me from watching something I want to see (most recently, the Texas Chainsaw remake as an example...still went and was still sad). I do though, whole heartily agree that several strong reviews do create hype and even I fall victim to it. Let's look at two movies I'm hyped for - Evil Dead and Pacific Rim..both are getting raving reviews and it does make me extremely eager to see them. At the end of the day...regardless of what anyone says, I would still stand in line, spend my $14 and go watch them both. Will I sing their praises if they're amazing?? Of course!! Will I blast them if they are bad?? Of course!! It's the internet and I have a voice too...BUT, I won't ever say "If you liked or disliked these movies..we aren't friends anymore"...(maybe jokingly I might).
This is my blog post to plead for society to stop taking their opinion too seriously. Sure, real life beliefs are on an entirely different scale, but we are talking about movies and Tv here....pure silliness and full of make believe. Have a great week!

Jealousy and why it doesn't work
Jealousy and why it doesn't work
Being in entertainment, I have felt jealousy and dealt with jealousy. Jealousy is really just our own insecurities coming to the surface. It could be fueled by someone doing something similar, maybe something that's done better or sometimes it's just because "I wish I thought of it first". I have dealt with it but as you get older you quickly realize...jealousy just gets in the way. Focusing on a negative doesn't work...ever.
Let me use this as an example - I see some filmmakers just outright blasting others or not supporting, based on jealousy. Now, having said that, let's also note that some people are assholes and shouldn't be supported. On the flip side, I encourage a lot of people to make movies and make them better. Why? Because as a fan of the Horror genre I WANT things better. I almost feel that on an Independent level we are sometimes cast aside or even ignored because of the subpar quality work that has been done...but...let's also not forget those that have laid the ground work for people to become better. There is a huge difference between bad and working with what was available at the time. A good eye is still a good eye, regardless.
It pains me when I don't see a lot of filmmakers working together, even supporting each others projects. Maybe because I started as a reviewer and made it common practice to promote others. Just being negative or talking down others to hope elevate yourself is a lose, lose situation. It draws negative attention to yourself while making the genre pool look bad. I handle this the way I handled my reviews...if I'm not a fan, I opt to not talk about it..but if I AM a fan, then I will gladly help promote it. Standing on the sidelines, being jealous will never accomplish anything.
Other people have podcasts..some better some worse...other people have short films, some amazing stuff, some just thrown together in their backyard. I want people to elevate their game...it only helps everyone. It pushes others to be better...isn't that what you want? Don't you, as a creator what to be the best you can be? That's what I want. I will always support those who support others. I will always be there to pat them on the back when they've done as great job...even if it's not needed. Negativity just hampers things...sure, it's natural, but let's work harder to raise the bar. I want to be my best, I want to work with others that have the same goal...I want to be positive.
Anyways..that's my rant for the day...go be your best!

Just when I thought I was done with Exorcisms!!
Just when I thought I was done with Exorcisms!!
Not every day you read that title..but come on..lets talk -
For me, the religious, exorcisms movies are done to death..probably because, along with Ghost films, I'm just done with them not being done properly. For every Exorcist, there are 20 awful Last Exorcism type films.
Possession is scary...seriously. It really is! An unknown entity enters your body and takes over, usually for the soul purpose to wreck shit. Your family gets crazy, your body tweaks and you say mean and hurtful things...sounds like the days of being bullied...don't ask, it was painful young years.
Anyways...I have been open about my distain for these films, recently even stating this on the Monster-Mania Radio show. I went to a Catholic school almost my entire learning career...yet, the thing that should scar me the most, actually scares me the least. How can that be?
Last night, I finally caught REC 3, the third installment into the REC franchise. A Spanish franchise that I truly love...truly. The first, spawned the US remake "Quarantine" and honestly, "Quarantine 2", like a zombies on the plane type film wasn't awful...check it out, it's on Netflix...back to REC...so REC, as the story progresses, you see there is more to the story and it becomes a religious/ possession story. REC 2 was another good one. REC 3 had gotten so so reviews...so I went in, almost with my mind made up to NOT like it...well...it wasn't bad.
Does is seem creepy? Well, not really. Is it a farce? Well, not really. I think it's 80 mins of a wedding gone wrong...like that hasn't happened before. It does play out like a zombie film, and the difference is when you see the images of the "possessed" in the mirror. The cure?? It's simple enough and the ending has a great twist. I recommend it..at least on streaming. I bought the first two...I probably will buy this one, because I'm a mental case and need to complete the collection. I know, not much of a review..more like food for thought. I want my Exorcisms scary dammit!!
I also want to say this...I have been infatuated with the theory that Horror films shouldn't have a happy ending. Is killing off your "hero" in the film, really too ballsy of a move? Just curious as to what you think.

No Clowning Around ships & festival time!
No Clowning Around ships & Festival time!
Merry Christmas and all that jazz, I can't tell you how happy I am that No Clowning Around has shipped out to you, as of today.
Behind the scenes I was a frantic mess...seriously (my left eye has had a twitch for like two weeks now) My original plan was to get this to you guys about two weeks ago....sadly, that didn't happen. I contacted the duplicator and they stated "oh, we tried to call you"...hmmm...I didn't get a call...nor email and TWO WEEKS went by!!
They finally came on Christmas Eve, so Kim and myself cut every cover, put every dvd in the case and addressed every envelope. After three hours, we were all set. Today I made the trip to the post office and 40 minutes later...Mumbles the Clown is on the way too you!!!
On behalf of everyone that worked hard, we truly hope you enjoy the film. Tom Gleba from NerdRemix gave his review today here REVIEW - so far, we've been fortunate and had positives. Matthew Burd and myself will be announcing a way for YOU to be involved in a Q&A shortly. Stay tuned....watch the movie, write your notes and be ready :
Another bit of news - No Clowning Around has been accepted in the Macabre Faire Film Festival on January 19-20 in Rockville Centre, NY. Our screening time will be 4pm on Saturday. Now, this is very important for us because this will be the FIRST time the film screens in front of others, besides our private party with cast and crew. Besides our excitement, this is a great way to support independent film making and enjoy a bunch of different films. This is the first festival of many that we will be attending (hopefully) and we will also be organizing a screening for those who have supported us.
Stay tuned and have a great New Year!!

Dimension's Horror-ible Toy Review - NECA's Friday the 13th Part 3 - Jason Voorhees
Dimension's Horror-ible Toy Review
NECA's Friday the 13th Part 3- Jason Voorhees
After an amazing weekend at Monster-Mania Con, I was finally able to start going through my swag, merch and assorted goodies. Now, I've always been a "toy guy", collecting and selling all kinds, from Star Wars to Horror action figures. NECA kind of took over for McFarlane in the Horror toy department several years ago. The great thing is NECA seems to care...A LOT.
As I sat, scanning the loot, I decided it's time to be an "opener" and crack open the Friday the 13th Jason figure, modeled after Part 3. The packaging is colorful and is the sealed clamshell type which is impossible too open, but I'm assuming it's keeping Jason in (for OUR protection of course).
After I grab some scissors, it's time to crack this killer open! One twist-tie and Jason is out.
This Jason might have more meaning to me, as I remember seeing Friday the 13th Part 3 in theaters back in the early 80's. It was my first real experience for 3-D films. I always though Richard Brooker always did a decent job as everyone's confused, deformed, mongoloid summer camper, but that's my opinion.
Ok, let's discuss the "Facts of the Figure" - The figure stands approx 7 inches tall. with decent articulation. Knees and arms bend, plus the shoulders swivel. The figure is available in two models - The Regular and the Battle Damaged versions. Neither seem too be rarer as of yet, but I grabbed the "Clean" version...but now after opening, I realize I need both version. The Clean version comes with a Spear Gun and Machete accessories, while the Battle Damaged version comes with an Axe and the Machete.
The paint job is excellent, as Jason is sporting some 80's style stone washed jeans...haha..ok, maybe that's me wishing. Anyways, his paint scheme seems to be spot on in comparison to the film. His posture is what really got me, as they captured his hunched shoulders fantastic, It really resembles him. The biggest benefit, as the pictures show, his mask is removable! I've had problems in the past with removable masks, especially Jason's, since the straps on the hockey mask tend to break...but so far, so good.
I would give this figure an A. It was an instant winner for me. It looks great, poses and stands very easily and is a keeper. I will say, for me, this is an opener. I don't think you can really enjoy the detail or sculpting unless Jason is out free...roaming your toy shelf, looking for pre-martial sex havers!!
If you would like to purchase these figures, our any of the other NECA Horror Figure line, please visit my friend Kevin at House of Mysterious Secrets. Kevin is top notch retailer and has extremely competitive prices.

"Superfights" is a Martial Arts Masterpiece!
SuperFights
(1995)
You ever stumble upon a movie that, only You talk about, so you try to tell more people just to share the sheer awesomeness? Me too!! That's my plan with this review...I plan to hype this film so huge, that once you watch it, you will want a Jack Cody Tattoo or maybe wish that Superfights was on TV weekly.
For years, growing up in the 80's I was glued to the television every Saturday afternoon, watching Shaw Brother's Kung Fu theater, then through the power of VHS, watching Enter the Ninja, Gymkata and even No Retreat, No Surrender (which has never been released on Dvd and IS a real crime). The fast paced, high energy martial artists, kicking, punching with the "smack" sound effect and story lines that seemed like backdrops for the action was why I loved those movies. The outrageous, ridiculousness of the punch power of the Boy with the Golden Arm or superfeats of the Crippled Masters (yes, you bet your ass I have this movie) was what movie magic was all about. You know the stories of the pupil that always wants to surpass the master....actually that sounds like almost every movie I enjoy! (I really need therapy)
Fast forward to 1995 and a 25 yr old, young Dimension is up late at night, flipping the channels of cable tv and I stumble upon this movie, the movie that inspired this write up, Superfights. I quickly look for the next showing because I HAVE to record this on a VHS tape. Using a book they called "The TV Guide", I set my VCR to record and everything is set. For the next several years I'm able to watch this throwback to corny, zany Karate action and I love every minute of it.
Let me give you the synopsis : Simple box boy Jack Cody is a karate dreamer. On his way home, Jack prevents a mugging and is thrust into stardom, instantly. Being offered a contract into the "Superfights", quite honestly, likened to WWE, that is all glitz and fame...on the outside. Cody quickly realizes it's an underground world of crime, drugs and a battle of good and evil.
That synopsis does not do this film any justice. With a really fimilar cast of Martial Arts veterans of 80's Kung Fu films, plus an appearance of a very young former ECW, WWE star Rob Van Dam and International Wrestling star Jim Steele (yep, Jungle Jim) this movie delivers on the action....and the cheese. Steroid usage, sex, shake downs of business owners and low level drug dealers (oh yeah...I said Shake Down) from this crooked Superfights promoter (geez, this kind of sounds like the Vince McMahin story) all make Superfights a plethera of happiness. Clearly not meant to be a comedy, it comes across so silly but for me, that's the charm for this movie.
From the amazing Kung Fu elderly master (all I could think of was Remo Williams) to the outlandish fellow super fighters. The fight scenes are what makes this movie so good, I'm serious about this. This movie is a must see! I wish I could could find Brandon Gaines, the lead, who only did this and not really anything else after, to sign my dvd.
Keep in mind, this movie will not be for everyone. In fact, I might be the only one this movie is for, but if you remember the action flicks that were built around fun, then you might really enjoy this one. It's a winner!!

This Mortal Coil - Based on a True Story
This Mortal Coil
Sean King, who plays Void Ghouligan from the extremely popular "The Ghouligans" posted a quick 18 minute short yesterday titled "This Mortal Coil" with the simple tag line "Based on a True Story". The based on a true story always gets me..I instantly through up the white flag and after reviewing countless films claiming the same, I almost set up a barrier against that "warning".
Before the review, let me give you the actual meaning of This Mortal Coil - Mortal coil is a poetic term that means the troubles of daily life and the strife and suffering of the world. It is used in the sense of a burden to be carried or abandoned, most famously in the phrase "shuffle[d] off this mortal coil" from Shakespeare's Hamlet. (thanks wiki :)
I believe the meaning of the title has more meaning than you think. The story quickly also became very believable, as I am sure this epidemic is happening in the modern society often.
This Mortal Coil is the story of love and devotion written by Paul Natale, creating a world that you control and falling for the love of your life. Vampires, more than ever are almost a desire to many, so when Matthew (Drew Moore), a simplistic introvert is captivated by a young Vampire, he is instantly lovestruck. Emily Wallace plays the young, wanna be Vampire Vixen and is totally believable in her role.
Similiar to George A Romero's Martin, Matthew wants to prove his love ...at any cost. Without spoiling the film, I will simply say...the was a breath of fresh air for me a viewer and a reviewer. King has proven he has talent as a director as Natale shows that he can write a script that relates to the youth of America and is not pursuaded by the Twilight rage. Vampirism is real....take a bite and watch!
Crestfallen - think twice, cut once
Crestfallen review
Jeremiah Kipp is the real deal folks. Crestfallen is a silent, short 6 minute griping look at coping with life. Actress Deneen Melody proves her range and ability as she exposes her feelings to the viewer through her genuine portrayal of a Wife who finds her Husband has betrayed her.
Dominick Sivilli just makes shot for shot so epic and captivating that you are simply speechless. It's almost like the perfect storm. The lighting, the mood...everything is captured. Jeremiah Kipp continues to assemble himself with a team that are bound for bigger and better.
This was my 1st time seeing Deneen Melody infront of the camera and she had my attention. I truly think she has the "it" factor, she has the nice girl next door look and the striking beauty that makes her a pleasure to watch.
Hats off to Kipp and crew on a well done short that tells a story without ever speaking a word.

Mental Photography Deck and DVD review - Great Illusion and Easy to use
Mental Photography Deck and DVD review
by: Rob Dimension
I have been reviewing some of the more simple decks and DVD's that you can pick up that really deliver and have some sort of impact. This is one of those tricks that are inexpensive and easy to pull off. Retail is approx $15.00, this price includes the DVD and the Deck. This is made by Magic Makers and, I think they always do a fantastic job.
Deck Overview : A deck is shown to be completely blank on both sides. Without switching the deck, it becomes a real, full color deck. Make spectators believe you mentally thought of the deck and turned the blank cards into faces and backs with your mind!
Your instructor for this DVD is Eddy Ray, whom if you are unfamiliar with, really does a fantastic job at breaking the trick down, showing you sleight variations to make this even easier, plus presents some very creative twists that make this a MUST. He also helps explain some simple techniques like the double lift and killing the wrist.
Tricks included on this DVD:
- Mental Invisible Deck
- Heated (Card turns blank in spectator's hand)
- Which Pile (A Variation to the 3 Card Monte)
- Vanishing Selection
- Color Change
- Illustrated Deck (the BEST trick on the DVD, in my opinion)
This is simple, fun and with the Holiday's quickly approaching, could be a great stocking stuffer! If you have interest in this deck, or any Magic - check out our Magic adviser Kurt Brasch at Kurt's Magic World in Lansdale, PA. He has a brand new location and his store has TONS of items. From the simplest tricks for the kids to the much more experienced illusions.

Cannibal Flesh Riot - It's a Riot baby!!!!
It's a Riot, baby!

Cannibal Flesh Riot (2006)
Reviewed by :Pigamortis Wrex
Director: Gris Grimly
Time: 29-35 minutes (depending on which cut you get)
This is one of thee most original and entertaining movies your ole pal Pigamortis has seen in quite a long time. The directorial debut of a talented fella, Gris Grimly and Mad Creator Productions. Made on a humble budget of approximately $6,000 it reaches and delivers far beyond what its budget would normally allow.
This film has more to offer in its 30 minutes than most "Big Budget/Studio" films have delivered in recent years.
Its a loving tale of two backwoods, good ole boys, Stash and Hub out in search of a meal... Did i mention that they are ghouls? Thats right, eaters of the dead. They travel into the local graveyard in hopes of digging up some freshly buried eats. I won't give any spoilers here but needless to say, hilarity ensues. Along with some well written Kevin Smithian dialog about condiments, the movie delivers on every level.
What most got my attention was the stylized, slick look of the whole movie. Shot in black and white and even the use of some outstanding animation, this was a mix of the fantasy/horror elements of Tim Burton meets Cabinet of Dr. Caligary meets Lovecraft. Along with a kick ass soundtrack featuring an original score composed by Peter Sandorff (Mad Sin/Nekromantix) and Jeppe Jessen of Hola Ghost. PLUS the discs are LOADED with extras! Commentaries (not 1 but 2!), bloopers, music, featurettes, this one has got it all, piglets! Did I mention Blitzkid doing the title track "CANNIBAL FLESH RIOT"?

Now this pig hardly ever does this but I say you all need to get your asses over to www.madcreator.com pick up a copy of this film. Whether you're a fan of horror, or an aspiring filmmaker. This is a MUST! It shows you just what you can do with some originality, talent and some drive in a genre which needs all 3. Head on over and give Gris a shout, check out his art and other projects they are workin on. Give them your love and support... and your money! We need to support those who genuinely deserve it and basing my opinion on this project, Gris and the folks at Mad Creator Productions indeed deserve it!

My Take on Monster Mania - August 2010 in Cherry Hill, NJ
My Take on Monster Mania 15!!!
by: Rob Dimension
Monster Mania and I have had a relationship for years now, I have been a vendor for approx 6 cons and this was my first time being a Guest! I absolutely LOVE Monster Mania, the promoter Dave Hagan, the way the convention is, the people, the guests...everything..it's like my home turf, if you will.
Friday Morning - I packed up the car, headed out to meet up with my Partners in Crime for the weekend, John and Pigamortis, to get set up and ready for the Friday afternoon kick off. We were set up in the Terrace Room, right along side the Pet Semetary reunion and Felissa Rose from Sleepaway Camp. Talk about being in heaven, they were ALL tremendous, seriously.
As the lines of people increased, it was our mission to create a buzz about our TV Show, mission accomplished, at least I think. We talked to many, many guests...sold a great deal of merchandise and made a few friends along the way.
Showing off my magic skills kept some of the lines moving, plus being able to host several events throughout the weekend like the VIP Party, the Yorkshire auction and the Sinister Film Festival were all great experiences. It just made for a very fun weekend.
Just wanted to briefly touch on some highlights:
- Just being there - seriously...it meant a lot to me
- The Celebrity Guests could not have been any nicer
- Smooth - the con was run very smooth from what I saw
- For all the people who stopped by our table - THANK YOU!!
Here is a mini-video we put together - if you weren't there...you missed a Helluva Con!!
Ring of Honor Superstar - Colt Cabana says "The Show is TONS of Fun!!"
Ring Of Honor Superstar: Colt Cabana talks about Late Night...
A few Ring of Honor shows I had the chance to manage a tag team during a dark match (something that is non-televised), if you haven't heard of Ring of Honor Pro Wrestling, please visit them at www.ROHwrestling.com. They have National Television and can be seen every Monday Night on HDNet network, they are one of the biggest and best Pro Wrestling companies in the United States.
While there, I approached Colt Cabana, whom I have known for a few years now about our TV show. Colt Cabana is a former WWE star and has traveled the World over, plus, the guy is legit funny. Knowing that Colt, has had great success as a comedian, I wanted to ask his advice and possibly get any tips on timing, writing or anything else that might help further the show along. Colt agreed and I waited to hear back.
Fast forward a month and this is what Colt had to say about the TV show "I thought it was tons of fun. I really enjoyed the campyness of it all. I think its something like teens and shit would really enjoy....I think, and older weirder creepier dudes"...so take that as a positive review, I appreciate Colt taking the time to watch!!

Dimension's Top 5 Zombie Movies of all time!
"Top 5 Zombie Movies of All Time"
by: Rob Dimension
The warm, hot air of Summer makes me think of one thing...ZOMBIES!!!!!...what if the Dead were walking the Earth? The foul, nasty smell of rotting flesh making your BBQ just a little better, that's what Summer is all about. Okay, so not really....but what better time to discuss my Top 5 Zombie films of all time?
Being a Zombie fiend, I love to talk about the walking dead, the timing seems to good to keep buried (literally). Now, by Zombie films, I mean the "Dead Shall Walk the Earth" Zombie, not the dreadful remake master Rob Zombie, sorry have to take every chance I can to slander Rob after his treatment of Michael Myers.
In the late sixties, a certain Zombie film changed the future of cinema and brought forth the "What If?" question that people will be asking for years to come. The Horror genre had exploded with the most terrifying threat of all time. What if the Zombie Apocalypse occurred? What if Zombies roamed the Earth? What repercussions would this have on Religion, would Earth truly become the new Hell? Questions became not could it happen but more to when will this happen. Are you prepared? What plan do you have in place when it happens? The Zombie apocalypse is always a great conversation, I am always fascinated by what people's opinions are and where they would "camp out". I will write a brief "survival course" at a later date, just for fun.
For now, hopefully, this list will catch you up to speed just in case, the event unfolds and you can thank me for saving your life.
Zombie History 101 - Zombies are reanimated corpses who feed on human flesh, rumored through Folklore and possibly voo doo origins. Zombies hunger for flesh and brains but that depends on the films you choose to watch or stories you choose to believe. Zombies have no fear and stop at nothing until the hunger subsides, which will never happen. Their hunger will last as long as they continue to inhabit the Earth. Strength and power also depend on the film series you choose, I prefer to believe the Zombies would be slow moving and groups of Zombies would pose a larger threat since the belief would be there is strength in numbers. I refuse to believe that Zombies can run, real Zombies walk at a slow pace, but that's just me. Romero is King...nuff said.
This list will be a countdown, as if we are counting down our last days on the Earth as we know it.
5. Return of the Living Dead (1985) - Sure, this film was really more of a comedy that truly horrifying look at Zombies, but this film is so good it just has to be mentioned. The story follows Freddy, a young punk rocker type who is starting his first days at Uneeda Medical Supply. Frank is given the job to teach young Freddy the ropes, while Freddy's friends are in the neighborhood waiting to pick him up for some serious partying later. Frank informs Freddy that the Night of the Living Dead series was real, they have a body downstairs in the basement in tank sealed by the Government. The mistakenly open the tank, releasing the dreaded gas called 245 Trioxin into the air. The Zombie outbreak begins and terror, mayhem and hilarity ensues.
Return of the Living Dead is a really fun movie with tons of action, gore and comedy that will please the biggest Zombie fan. Eighties Scream Queen Linnea Quigley has a great appearance as Trash and gets down and dirty (I think I may have lost my virginity to that scene), plus the soundtrack has been received well for years. Sure Zombies run in this one, but I am willing to let this one slide simply because this movie is so good. Check this one out, plus the sequels aren't bad either (Parts 2 and 3 at least...the others are awful) and are worth dedicating a marathon too.
4. Zombie (1979) - Released in the United States as Zombie, Lucio Fulci's popular Cult Classic has also be released as Zombi 2, Island of the Living Dead and Zombie Flesh Eaters. At the time of it's release Zombie was labeled as excessively gory, that statement alone thrust the film into the wide open arms of Horror lovers world wide. Italian film maker Lucio Fulci became an Icon to Zombie fans and this might have been my first Video Nasty to watch.
The film's plot mostly takes place on an Island but is best well known for two specific scenes. In one scene a zombie fights a Tiger shark underwater, (nothing like giving us more fear about "Is it safe to go into the water?). Cheesy but original, this scene alone needs to be seen to believe. The second scene has been etched in the minds of everyone who was witnessed it, since it would be everyone's worst fear, A zombie impales a characters eye onto a splinter of wood, very slowly and what seems to be painfully. The special effects are decent enough to enjoy the film and I feel, without a doubt, this film belongs in ANY top five based on zombie and horror.
3. Day of the Dead (1985) - George A. Romero's third installment into his Dead series takes place well into the Zombie Apocalypse. I feel this film is more of a psychological horror film that just a gore fest since the remaining survivors are left to deal with mental breakdowns and the breakdown of their inner society.
Taking place in an underground military shelter, our survivors are all Government employees consisting of soldiers, internal help and doctors. Lead by Captain Rhodes who is a dictator using power to force others to maintain day to day operations is an over the top, selfish, demented leader. Temptations and pure insanity rule the day while Zombies rule the Earth. Trying to connect with the zombies (Bub) may be the last hope of survival.
Romero proves why he is the Zombie King providing the viewer with a real glimpse at social disorder and martial law. Plenty of gore to satisfy the biggest gore hound. I highly recommend this one.Tom Savini does a fantastic job supplying us with special effects that STILL are better than most in films today - Highly Recommended film.
2. Dawn of the Dead (1978) - In my opinion, this might be the film that really made people aware of zombies. The original George A. Romero classic, not to be confused with the Zack Synder remake, was originally given an X rating upon release and still today is regarded as one of, if the THE greatest Zombie films of all time. Released numerous times in various forms of box sets, special editions on VHS, DVD Blu-ray and Laserdisc, DOTD was highly profitable for Romero and all involved. Released also as Zombi internationally by Italian horror director Dario Argento and has an AMAZING soundtrack by Goblin.
Taking place in both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, the Monroeville Mall is the main setting for this classic. Our survivors hold up in the greatest, plush mall I have ever seen. Battling zombies, a biker gang and themselves makes you think of your percentages of survival in this situation. Due to the setting of this film, Malls would be everyone's first place to head to making the malls probably the last place you would actually want to head to.
Special Effects master and wizard Tom Savini heads the task of giving the Zombies life. Great kill scenes, plenty of gore, a great script and good acting makes Dawn of the Dead an obvious choice to watch, this time of year. One a zombie scale based on an overall great time, I give this film a 10.
1. Night of the Living Dead (1968) - "They're coming to get you, Barbra!". Yes, the original zombie classic takes the number 1 spot on my countdown. Yet another George A Romero film leads the pack and rightfully so. The Independent black and white thriller is the story of a group of 5 people trapped in a rural Pennsylvania farm home. The sheer horror of the public, for the late sixties was the launching pad that Romero needed to become a success.
In 1999, the Library of Congress placed it on the National Film Registry as a film deemed "historically, culturally or aesthetically important", not to shabby for a zombie film.
Romero's vision really captivated the viewers, being remade, re released, mocked and re-imagined Night of the Living Dead also had it's share of problems. The film lapsed into the public domain because the original theatrical distributor and was released through several companies attempting to cash in on the film. George Romero felt "ripped off" but stayed true to his Zombie roots. Romero has since released numerous zombie films including "Survival of the Dead" based on an island off the coast of North America, where local residents simultaneously fight a zombie epidemic while hoping for a cure to return their undead relatives back to their human state. Looks like George still has some left in the tank.
