Hey gang, just figured I'd check in and share this past weekend's Monster-Mania experience. First off, let me start by saying this Monster-Mania is definitely in my top 3 of experiences. Ive attended 28 Monster-Mania's as an attendee, a vendor and then, as a guest and I'm always blown away by the fandom and how great everyone is. Dave Hagan and family put on a fantastic convention and I am always thankful to be there.


Kim and I arrived Friday to start setting up our table, luckily she's the brains in this operation as she always does a great job setting up and honestly, I typically walk around and talk to people I only see every 6 months. It's truly become our family. I wander around, check out the things I'm gonna grab before the con even starts and I'm typically broke before the con opens..haha.


Our main agenda, for those who know us, was to meet the Japanese guests, collectively who played

Godzilla and Ultraman. Kim, since we've been married has become a HUGE Godzilla fan. So much so, that we literally saved money for this con and knew we would have a lot of opportunities to grab what we wanted. She was like a kid in a candy store and smiled from ear to ear.


This weekend was also the release of our newest film, Mortimor Tromblay. This is our 5th film, not including the Journey documentary and for a change, we opted for a dark comedy. Matt, unable to be there, was again back on board for this project and we all were ecstatic. What we all really enjoyed was the fact that we felt some sort of freedom to make and create exactly what we wanted and had no real restrictions. Our main goal, as team was to make something to be proud of, we all feel we succeeded.

On Friday, Kim couldn't wait to get in line for Harou Nakajima (original Godzilla), Tsutomu Kitagawa (mostly know as Millennium Godzilla), Bin Furuya (Ultraman) and Shinji Nishikawa (concept artist and designer for Godzilla). She immediately wanted Nishikawa-san to sketch her favorite Kaiju, Little Godzilla. I, on the other hand wanted Millennium Godzilla (Godzilla 2000 is my favorite design and suit) and I would never forgive myself if I opted to go without asking for a sketch of Booska. Booska is a playful character that I fell in love with when my daughter was younger. I was able to grab some VHS's of Booska and we would sit, watch and laugh. Booska will always hold a special place for me, as it means great memories for my daughter and I.

Next, we stopped by the Vampire Robots booth and had to grab our Limited to 200, CCP Burning Godzilla vinyl exclusive. Then I noticed that Michael (the owner) had the exclusive Booska and Chamegon set. My jaw hit the floor and instantly, I knew I HAD TO OWN these vinyls. Once Kim saw them, she knew that money was as good as spent. I plopped down my duckets and then included a Hedorah vinyl to cap off our shopping event. Sigh...so many vinyls to buy, so little cash.

On Saturday, I was set to host a few Q&A's including Mitch Pileggi, Denis O'Hare and the Halloween 4 panel with Danielle Harris and George P Wilbur. Again, as a horror fan, this is always an amazing opportunity and I love the opportunity. This time around the Denis O'Hare, known recently from American Horror Story, really blew me away with his open discussion on acting and the way he approaches playing characters. Absolutely crushed it and it felt like an actors studio and I sat like the student and took in all he said. Of course Danielle Harris is really all Horror fanboys crush and really a testament to Scream Queens of yesteryear. She takes it serious and really is always a delight to talk with. So much fun. I also was fortunate to catch the Kaiju actors panel and just loved it. This is where the fanboy in me shows...I'm sure I was smiling quite a bit.


A few years ago Dave asked if I wanted to help judge the costume contest and its quickly become a very fun part of the convention. This year was jammed wall to wall with all kinds of creatures of the

night. From kids, to ordinal and creative to the sexy...they have a bit of everything. I'm always taken back by the amount of effort that some put into this event. Most often, the non typical designs and outfits are winners. It's a fun evening to close out Saturday night (at least for me).


Sunday afternoon's at Monster-Mania have become something very special to me the last 7 years as I'm host of the Yorkies auction. This is where you can see how much promoter Dave Hagan cares and dedicates space for this auction that is the con's best kept secret. Marilyn and her team from the Yorkie rescue go above and beyond and have shared stories about how much their rescue really helps families save these pups. When I first started we would be happy to raise a few hundred dollars, this past convention, we raised over $5,000. Without your support, we could never do this, so I thank you for being there and offering your hearts.


Kim and I, in closing that everyone who stopped by our table, grabbed our newest film. Those who asked about our son, Curt Robinson's recent surgery and wished him well. It's amazing to me that people actually care, maybe it's cliche but I am always thankful that you all care about us, our projects and want us in their lives. Thank you.

BAGGAGE is the short film by writer/lead actor Rob Dimension, that will make you rethink the term "normal". Dimension plays Benjamin, a man who seems to live a normal life; he goes to work, has a happy home life and lives in the middle of clean cut America. This 15 minute film follows a day in the life; witness what happens when an incident breaks down Benjamin's "normal" life. 

BAGGAGE is directed by Jeremiah Kipp (CRESTFALLEN, CONTACT, THE DAYS GOD SLEPT). Kipp had this to say about BAGGAGE, “BAGGAGE immediately captured my interest as a beautiful and macabre tale of a man haunted by desire. It’s got the feverish, melancholy intensity of an Edgar Allan Poe story, but told in a modern and transgressive way. Rob wanted a genre film that was aesthetically stunning, and combined with the visual sensibility of our cinematographer Jeffrey Gould, we were going for a style that felt like Alfred Hitchcock circa 1960: Bold camera angles, a constantly moving camera to sustain the tension and unnerving God’s-eye-view overhead shots that make Benjamin feel small and oppressed. The last weekend of filming was really all the secret stuff from the film so I will share more of my feelings and less of any potential spoiler info. It's a short update

I really wanted to name this "My Brush with a Madman" because it's truly how I felt. I've been able to act/perform in a variety of projects and be everything from the evil villain to a hapless victim..plus, a bumbling version of myself. Never have I ever been shaken like I have been playing "Benjamin" in "baggage". 

On the last day of filming, we were on the move for 18 hours; it was tough and grueling...but at the same time, everyone was focused and determined to make the best film possible. It's hard to describe the feeling I had...maybe I'm a method actor or maybe I put far too much thought into the character I'm portraying...either way...I'm not sure how often I will rewatch "baggage" simply due to some of  footage I've seen of me in the "heat of the moment". I was able to sit and watch a scene where Benjamin is being an awful person...and I sat with hands over my mouth as I looked into my eyes and saw NOTHING! It gave me chills and it really was a glimpse of my own madness.

When I wrote the story I guess it never really hit me, even the weekend before was much more relaxed (even though I had some tough moments), about how much it would mentally exhaust me. While it took me about 5 days to break free from the Benjamin skin, even going as far as shaving the goatee and getting a hair cut, I am completely happy with what I've seen from the footage thus far. I really feel we have done something great.

This is the moment where I will gloat and talk extremely highly of everyone involved...words can't express the experience I had. The experience will help me personally and professionally. I made new friends and really learned from everyone around me. I learned my own limits and how to push past those, I learned how to be more artistic and find beauty in the most horrible visions. I really don't feel that "baggage" is about me at all...I think it's about the people that helped MAKE the film. It's each and every person that shared interest and/or worked long hours and gave up something for this to happen.

"baggage" is a story that Rob Dimension has been sitting on for over two years now. While eating lunch together, Sal Valente made mention to Rob about a simple premise, this simple premise has blossomed and grown in a full fledged project. Dimension, fresh off the success of the award winning film "No Clowning Around"; another short film he wrote, starred and co-directed, has worked hard to bring fresh life to the Horror genre. Dimension is no stranger to the horror community, from the TV show "Late Night at the Horror Hotel" to blogging and reviews, even to podcasting, he has stood behind so many filmmakers trying to shine a light on the grass roots level; The Independents.

After the gritty feel of No Clowning Around, Dimension wanted to focus on "the complete opposite" and "baggage" was born. Submitting the script to Jeremiah Kipp, a director that Dimension has praised for nearly two years, was a personal risk but came with an amazing reward. Jeremiah responded almost immediately and was on board. The Cinematographer for "baggage" will be Jeffrey Gould, from Action Media Productions (http://www.actionmedia.tv). Jeff has an extensive background in film and has added great chemistry to the team. We are extremely happy to have Jeff and his team a part of this project. 

Also, Associate Producer Bill Wilusz will be leading the Behind the Scenes video package that will be included with the DVD release. Bill has also written, starred and produced his own films (Prey and Demon Hunters) so we are sure this inside look into the making will be a can't miss!

Synopsis - Benjamin is normal. He does his best to fit in with society. He goes to work, loves his significant other and has hopes and dreams just like you. You will follow Benjamin for one day of his life, but will you still believe that Benjamin is normal after his world is revealed?

How much do we need? Where is it going? - Even though the film is a short, we have a $3,000 budget. We have special effects that total more than $1,200 plus, securing locations, production costs, food, travel and additional post production expenses. Ok gang, here's the scoop...as you may have heard (after numerous postings) our award winning Horror/Drama short film "No Clowning Around" is premiering on Saturday, March 9th, at Monster-Mania Con in Cherry Hill, NJ. It will be screening in Grand Ballroom C at 1pm. Brian Mitchell, whom did the artwork for No Clowning Around is offering 20, limited edition posters for free to the first 20 people in for the screening. 

Rob and Kim Dimension will be manning the booth, located in the Vendors Room on Friday and Saturday only. Rob will be hosting the Yorkie Auction followed by the Sinister Short film festival right after. Co-director Matthew Burd will be at the table on Saturday, as will Steve Corino (12-3pm only). This is your chance to come grab your dvd, have it signed and support an Independent film at ground level. We could not be happier. 

Dimension will also dress as Mumbles the Clown on Saturday from 4-7pm only. He would LOVE to get a picture with YOU. Come see Mumbles, everyone's favorite clown.

Am I the Poor Man's Kevin Smith?

Over this past weekend, I attended a surprise Birthday party and I sat and mingled with a diverse group of people. Fellow actors, office people, spouses, editors and just random people, all walks of life. Interestingly enough, it was held at the Red Bank Elks Lodge...yep...2 blocks down from the Secret Stash.

The Secret Stash is the comic book shop that is showcased on the AMC show, Comic Book Men. It's been featured in Kevin Smith's ViewAskew Universe on film, talked about on his podcast network (Smod Co) and flocked too by the masses of Smith's nerds. The "Stash" is full of movie memorabilia; it's a shrine to films that spawned from the Independents. Kevin Smith has lead the way and made being a nerd cool....at least for me. Plus, you have to hand it to him, the guy takes care of his friends and shows loyalty...a RARE thing.

Anyways...back to the story...

So, someone says "congrats on your short film, heard great things." I've never been good with compliments...ever. I'm always sort of embarrassed but extremely thankful that someone is actually thinking a positive about me...especially since from my view point, I'm really struggling to make headway. I hardly ever see the positives...I always want to be better. Then they ask "so, what's next...?"

I'm gonna put a pause here...because in my head..there is a pause..

I start to tell the table about my plans, because by now...everyone is kind of staring at me. They are waiting for my response. I talk about my next short film titled "baggage", plus the idea of shooting a short comedy film. Then I mention the web series I'm in the middle of developing, that will start rolling in the summer..(here's a tidbit - it will be about film..not a review show, but insight and how to's). I talk about how I love to write and I'm working on a book...I talk about podcasting...and by this time, I feel like..."who is still listening?"

All of a sudden...I hear this "You're like the poor man's Kevin Smith"...now, for those that know me, I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan..if anything, the dude is my idol. So, I sit for a second, kind of shake it off and say "nah, he's got a lot going for him...I'm just a small town guy." Dinner continues and I don't think back about the comment and enjoy the baked ziti and grub the cake. 

My Wife, Kim, on the ride home notices I'm quiet and asks where am I. I just answer that I'm thinking ahead for this week's premier of No Clowning Around at Monster-Mania. I express that this is a make or break weekend for me. I know I'm new to the film making game but I feel like I'm carrying a lot of pressure. She then says "You know...you're gonna be great." I love how she gives me the extra confidence and pushes me to better. 

Poor man's Kevin Smith or not...this coming weekend, I push and work harder than I ever have. I look at this as the greatest opportunity I've ever had. I have to take the bull by the horns and make it matter. I want you to leave Monster-Mania, having an amazing weekend...but in the back of your mind..I hope there is a glimmer that creates an awareness that I am out there...trying to make good.

The award winning short film, No Clowning Around will be making it's hometown premier with a screening at Monster-Mania Con on Saturday, March 9th, at 1pm in Grand Ballroom C. Plus, a short Q& A right after with star writer and co-director, Rob Dimension, Co-Director and cinematogtrapher Matthew Burd, co-star Kim Dimension and co-star, former ECW World Champion and current ROH star Steve Corino. We will have DVD's, posters, buttons, t-shirts and more at the show!!

Steve Corino will only be at Monster-Mania on Saturday from 12 noon until 3pm.

Also, at Monster-Mania Con, we will debuting the brand new DVD artwork supplied to us by the extremely talented Buz Hasson & Ken Haeser, colored by Blair Smith from the Living Corpse comic series. No Clowning Around Wins at Macabre Faire Film Festival

This past weekend, Rob and Kim Dimension went to The Macabre Faire Film Festival in Long Island, NY. No Clowning Around was a nominated film in the festival and WON the Audience Choice award after a very successful screening on Saturday. The screening was standing room only and was well received. 

Dimension had this to say "I'm blown away by this; the quality of films that were showcased this weekend were amazing. The festival was fantastic and we could not have been any happier."

Dimension noted that getting to meet some of his favorite Independent directors was one of the weekend's highlights. "Yeah, meeting guys like Scott Perry and Jeremiah Kipp was awesome. Two years ago I fell in love with Kipp's short film "Crestfallen" and it was great to sit down and talk with these guys, after they watched our film."
