Mumbles and Looney Will Haunt You!!

Mumbles and Looney Will Haunt You!!!

"Hey kids..it's your old pal Mumbles the Clown. Seems I will be showing up at the Haunted Prison of Burlington County in Mt Holly, NJ. Stop by and see me...let's be best friends."

Mumbles the Clown, who garnered notoriety from the Independent Horror Film "No Clowning Around", will be making a few appearance at the Haunted Prison in Mt. Holly, NJ. Mumbles, along with his new gal pal, Looney, will be in the Funhouse of Fear.

Mumbles will be armed with the dreaded "Rubber Chicken" while Looney, luckily will be restrained. Not much is known about Looney except for Mumbles and her have some history...but we've been told, more of the back history will be made public as we get into October.

Rob Dimension had this to say; "I've always wanted to work in a Halloween Haunt. I've been involved with a few the last couple of years but The Prison group have been very supportive of us and we've become friends with some of the owners and people who work there. It seems like a great learning tool for me, as I'm always looking for new ways to push the envelop in filmmaking, this is a good measuring stick to see what is scary."

Here are the dates to see Mumbles & Looney:

Friday Oct 11th
Friday Oct 18th
Friday Oct 25th
Saturday Oct 26th

The Haunted Prison is located:

128 High Street, Mt Holly, NJ

No Clowning Around trailer releases

“…you can give in to depression or fight back”

Those are the words that I feel best can describe my battle with depression. About six months ago, I looked in the mirror and decided to make a change. My life was in a downward spiral and from that experience came; “No Clowning Around”. We can never win the battle against depression but, I believe, we can look into its eyes and face it, head on.

“No Clowning Around” is a Horror short film based on one man’s fall from grace. Ed, who once was beloved by his hometown as Mumbles the Clown, is now a party clown who battles depression and addiction. His last shed of light in his life is Trixie, who has struggles of her own. Being pushed from all sides, who and what will stop the endless spiral of sadness?

How did this come about?

Some might know me from Late Night at the Horror Hotel, Pro Wrestling, Monster-Mania Radio or the Extreme Odd Couple Podcast, but I really feel I developed the creative bug from reviewing movies. I’ve always loved the horror genre but I felt I wanted to be a bigger part of it. When you review movies, you expose other’s vulnerability but now, I’m the vulnerable one.

The last year I’ve learned that exposing my life can have a good affect on others. I had a rough battle with depression about a years and a half ago. Maybe it was my mid-life crisis, but home life was bad, I had no direction and from that, came this film project.

The film is personal for me, even though it’s extreme in relations, it’s still has plenty of metaphors to my own life. The process only took me about two days to write and once on paper; I knew this was the movie I wanted to make.

What is this NOT?

I'm glad you asked...this is NOT a Killer Clown movie. I've wanted people to know that from the start. There are plenty of Killer Clown films out there...like 100 Tears, Fear of Clowns, Killer Klowns from Outer Space or even Killjoy. While Ed is a clown, that's not the story. The story is about being pushed...and finally having a breaking point. Sometimes when your back is against the wall, you have no choice.

How did you chose who is involved?

I wrote about a 15 page treatment, kind of like a sketched out script, but just the basics. The first person I showed was my Wife, Kim. Kim and I have been together for over 21 years and it was important for me to make her the Trixie character. Once you see the film and I can relate the two, you will see why. She rehearsed countless days and worked very hard, it paid off.

The next person I wanted involved was Steve Corino. Corino is easily my best friend, from offering me a place to stay, to always being there when times were tough. We both helped each other during rough times..you know how misery needs company sometimes? Well, he’s my misery partner. The role of Lenny was his as soon as it was written. He took it extremely serious and made sure he was not the typical “wrestler in a movie” role. He’s believable.

Matthew Burd was the next choice, since his work on Late Night at the Horror Hotel; he proved his artistic vision to me on that project. I sent him the story and he wrote the screenplay and I could see the movie from his expressive script, I loved it immediately. Matt has included myself in several of his previous short films including Cuts Right Over that is making the rounds on some film festivals now. Matt and I worked great together and we each had ideas and it made for a smoother shoot. Very happy he wanted to be a part of it.

Sal Valente was a later addition to the project. I sent him the script and he loved it. Some will know Sal from his work as Pigamortis from our show. We have good chemistry, he’s funny and I knew he dug the project so it made perfect sense to have him aboard.

What can we expect?

We are aiming for a December release. It will be available on DVD, plus we will have a Limited to 50 VHS release. I will be focusing on Film Festivals and trying to have as many eyes on this project as possible. Debating on how well this is received, will lay out the future. Ideas are about a feature or a possible sequel short for “Mumbles”. I think that the character has enough oddity and is relatable to many that he has some likeability and a future.

I really want to thank those that have helped donate to make this possible. You truly made a boyhood dream come to reality. I also want to thank those that helped, our crew, those who offered advice and those who listened to me complain. It was a long four days, being on set for sixty hours, but I know it will be worth it. I’m proud of this.

No Clowning Around Diary 9-16 & 9-18

No Clowning Around Diary
Recap of 9-16 & 9-18

As I sit here today at 7:50am on a fall like Friday, I feel accomplished. Halloween II is playing in the background, my favorite time of year has finally arrived. I wanted to continue updating everyone with the progress of No Clowning Around....well, as of Tuesday night, September 18th at approx 9:56pm, we have wrapped on the film. So, what's next? The editing process...so stay tuned for a trailer...soon.

Sunday Sept 16th - Like the days before, we get to location at 8am and I start the make up process. I think I have it down to about 45 minutes or so now. The hardest part is knowing I will have to put on the make up, remove it, then put it on again...it really kills your skin.

The weather was fantastic, this worked out perfectly and allowed us to finish shooting the entire day outside. As you can see by the picture on the left, not everyone will enjoy this movie...the longer we shot this film the more we, most of the cast and crew, started to wonder what we were making...haha.

Matt (Co-Director, Matthew Burd) and myself just worked flawless together. We had a great idea of what we wanted to shoot, how we wanted to shoot it and we were flowing. Like I mentioned before, it's hard, with a small cast, small crew as you kind of have to do everything yourselves. Matt and I have said several times, we had a great crew and we are thankful for everyone that helped bring this together.

We attracted some attention while shooting some scenes and had to deal with a few people passing by, then we had a group of neighborhood kids that I supplied all with posters, just for staying out of the way and being great. I'm always a fan of the random drunk coming up and not hesitating to get "in the shot" just to find out "what's going on?". I mean it seems like the right thing to do, when you walk into a car crashed into a building, being driven by a drunk clown...right? Exactly! haha.

Taking a break, discussing our next move

This was a good day also because I had a good friend, Sal Valente on set. Some might know Sal as the man behind Pigamortis on our Tv show Late Night at the Horror Hotel, while others might know him as "Big Sal" from ECW. He was the highlight of that show for me to work with....he was focused on getting it done. I can't get into a lot of details on what Sal did for the movie except, we have real good chemistry together and he is funny as hell. Sal was a trooper and hung the entire day, which was nearly 15 hours long!!

What I really liked was as the night began to roll in...my mood changed and it was time to focus on a downward spiral of the character. As Matt shot from behind the lens, he was freaking out..."Holy shit" and "Wow" as I crept around the outside of "Lenny's" house. I really enjoyed this stuff.

Tuesday Sept 18 - Ah yes, my Birthday and the wrap day. Kim and myself we short on sleep and credit to her, she did everything asked the entire shoot and supporting me all day long. We get up at 4:30am and we are on the road by 6am.

Originally, when I scheduled this final day to be on my Birthday, I didn't take into account that I would be gone all day long and not see my kids. I felt awful when I got home at 11:30pm too see they walked in the rain 6 blocks each way to bake me a cake and I wasn't home for it. They are awesome and I love them a ton, they understand that I had to be away, but it still stinks.

Anyways, the weather on this day...AWFUL!! We have one particular scene that we needed to reshoot and it rained both times making it a little difficult. Mother Nature hates me!!

Now, let me let you in on a little something...during this scene I need to eat an 8 in round cake...and this is the Second time in a week of having to do so. As we are filming the scene, I look over at the sink and I'm debating on throwing up as I'm filled with cake...don't want anymore, don't want to see anymore...DONE...haha. Matt and the crew LOVE this scene as my grossness makes them happy. Plus, I get to wear my elephant trunk...wait until you see this! Honestly, I loved what we captured the second time around.

Moving forward to the next location, I contacted my homeboy Steve Corino, as this day would be his death scene!! Steve was fantastic this entire shoot...seriously, he had an idea of who his character was and really pulled it off..I love the guy. I'm telling you, what he had to go through scarred him for life...he sat, dealt with it and was a true professional. My hats off to him. We had to make some last minute changes to the special effect due to a timing issue, but honestly I'm extremely happy with what we got.

As Trixie, Peepers and Mumbles sat on the sofa to close out the final shot of the film, I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear...it was a wrap! As the crew started to clean Bill's house (Thanks Bill...hopefully we didn't wreck it too bad) we brought out the Its a Wrap cake (yeah, more cake!! haha) and everyone had some...yes, even me.

Thank you to all who donated, helped and shared the progress of this dream. You made my dream a reality!

Special Thanks to Matthew Burd - you sir, are a professional!

Bill, Patti, Chris and Nanette - you guys were all fantastic and Patti, I owe you a shirt for coming through with the last minute help on the final S/FX!!

Brian Mitchell - Thank you for the art work and all you've done

Dave Hagan - Seriously, the pep talks you gave me helped me tremendously.

Sal - Dude..you popped me the entire day. Thank you!

Steve Corino -  that part was yours from the moment I wrote it. Couldn't be happier you were involved!

And finally -

Kim - let's face it...without you, there would be no me. On Sunday we celebrate Twenty One years together...you are the reason I breath and I owe you more than I can ever tell you. I love you.

Thanks guys for reading and following along this long 4 day, 60 hour shoot schedule. It was intense, but I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Love,
Mumbles the Clown!

Dimension's Horror-ible Toy Review - NECA's Friday the 13th Part 3 - Jason Voorhees

Dimension's Horror-ible Toy Review
NECA's Friday the 13th Part 3- Jason Voorhees

After an amazing weekend at Monster-Mania Con, I was finally able to start going through my swag, merch and assorted goodies. Now, I've always been a "toy guy", collecting and selling all kinds, from Star Wars to Horror action figures. NECA kind of took over for McFarlane in the Horror toy department several years ago. The great thing is NECA seems to care...A LOT.

As I sat, scanning the loot, I decided it's time to be an "opener" and crack open the Friday the 13th Jason figure, modeled after Part 3. The packaging is colorful and is the sealed clamshell type which is impossible too open, but I'm assuming it's keeping Jason in (for OUR protection of course).

After I grab some scissors, it's time to crack this killer open! One twist-tie and Jason is out.

This Jason might have more meaning to me, as I remember seeing Friday the 13th Part 3 in theaters back in the early 80's. It was my first real experience for 3-D films. I always though Richard Brooker always did a decent job as everyone's confused, deformed, mongoloid summer camper, but that's my opinion.

Ok, let's discuss the "Facts of the Figure" - The figure stands approx 7 inches tall. with decent articulation. Knees and arms bend, plus the shoulders swivel. The figure is available in two models - The Regular and the Battle Damaged versions. Neither seem too be rarer as of yet, but I grabbed the "Clean" version...but now after opening, I realize I need both version. The Clean version comes with a Spear Gun and Machete accessories, while the Battle Damaged version comes with an Axe and the Machete.

The paint job is excellent, as Jason is sporting some 80's style stone washed jeans...haha..ok, maybe that's me wishing. Anyways, his paint scheme seems to be spot on in comparison to the film. His posture is what really got me, as they captured his hunched shoulders fantastic, It really resembles him. The biggest benefit, as the pictures show, his mask is removable! I've had problems in the past with removable masks, especially Jason's, since the straps on the hockey mask tend to break...but so far, so good.

I would give this figure an A. It was an instant winner for me. It looks great, poses and stands very easily and is a keeper. I will say, for me, this is an opener. I don't think you can really enjoy the detail or sculpting unless Jason is out free...roaming your toy shelf, looking for pre-martial sex havers!!

If you would like to purchase these figures, our any of the other NECA Horror Figure line, please visit my friend Kevin at House of Mysterious Secrets. Kevin is top notch retailer and has extremely competitive prices.

Long Pigs Film review - our biggest and best yet!!

Long Pigs: Movie Review

This time around for the movie review, the Late Night crew (John Cannon and Rob Dimension) decided to pull double duty and review the Independent Underground Horror hit film, Long Pigs. After viewing the film, they were both blown away by how much fun and well put together the film really is. Gearing up for the official DVD release on June 7th, this is what they had to say about Long Pigs:

John - Long Pigs is a movie based around an independent film crew following around a modern day cannibal serial killer not unlike Ed Gein and Jeffery Dahmer. The serial killer is Anthony who is a basic simple man who puts the art of cannibalism as well as the act of killing into the same category of people eating meat such as cows and pigs. In one scene it shows him cutting apart a recently killed victim as he has the corpse hung by their feet as you would in a butcher shop. However as he goes about his deed he is talking with the film crew in a simple monotone sound with such a look on innocence on his face that you tend to forget that he has just killed this person and is preparing them to be eaten. He meticulously butchers the individual as a normal butcher would take pride in his cuts of beef/meat.

Rob -  The film crew played by writers-directors, Nathan Hynes and Chris Power, come across extremely eager, thinking this is the "big break" they have been waiting for. The term Long Pigs (laung pig) is the Culinary term for the human corpse, which is established early on. Our killer, Anthony McAlister (Anthony Alviano), like John said, comes across as "professional", almost teaching a "How to kill, cut and cook" your meal class. McAlister's nonchalant approach to his rituals make disliking him a task....I would hang with this guy, based on his public appeal, but behind closed doors you can see the unfolding of a madman.

John - The character Anthony himself is actually such a sympathetic character that you begin to feel for him and realize that this is a normal everyday occurrence that to him is like a person going to a grocery store to buy food in order to live. This simple average man works a regular job and even plays in beer league style hockey games. As you always hear in every serial killer report you see on the news “you never would expect him to be a gruesome monster because he always seemed so nice.

Rob -  Once the story begins to unfold, you can see the deeper issues with McAlister, problems with "Mommy" and how truly sick he really is. Having his Mom in a retirement home, she is unnerving and losing her mind. Seems Anthony has a few problems...

One sequence during the film, the crew meets up with the Father of a little girl who has gone missing. Digging deeper, you begin to realize that McAlister was responsible, admitting how the playground is a "super-market", he goes into detail about how the meat was tender. In the most ballsy move, the crew interviews the Father with McAllister holding the boom mic, I admit, this made me uncomfortable and want to see Anthony get caught.

John - One point I enjoyed in the film is where, due to a flat tire, Anthony and the film crew go to a farm to secure a spare tire for them to get home. The farm turns out to be a pig farm and as you walk through their butchering area and see the pigs you can see more how Anthony views his ways as being that of a normal pig farmer.

Rob -  I enjoyed the way the film was pieced together, a lot of great editing. Well lit when needed and also some very clever use of music along with a fast forward sequence that shows how to dismantle a body. I also enjoyed the how to use the Kiln to get rid of the bones....fun stuff. Guess I now know what to buy for my basement smoker.

John - The movie is sprinkled with a police detective and behavioral psychologist explaining what goes through a serial killers head and just after they finish their speech it shows Anthony doing and being the exact opposite.

Rob -  I agree John, the detective scenes were insightful, since they help the pace of the film and grant you a view from both sides of the fence.

John - Now, half way through the film though you begin to look at him more as a monster and a disturbed individual that he really is. You can begin to see the symptoms, which were described by the experts, come out more and more in Anthony towards the end of the film until the final climax.

Rob -  What really gets me during the course of the film is the role the film crew plays. Not only witnessing murders, but partaking in them as well. The realism of their reactions was priceless, from the uneasiness of watching Anthony kill and cut up his victims to witnessing Anthony feeding his friends Ribs hot off the grill.

John - I don’t normally enjoy sitting down to watch movies and tend to sometime fast forward through parts that I feel are drawn out, but in this case I watched the film from start to finish without once thinking about hitting the fast forward button. This movie kept me wanting to see more and I was glad that I did not skip anything in this film.

Rob - I had my reserves going in, since this film had been compared to the August Underground series and even Leslie Vernon: Behind the Mask, but after watching and giving it a chance, I can honestly say, this film is not like them at all. While the films has similar themes, they are pulled off completely different. I ranted about this once I watched it, even congratulating the film makers, they have really done something fantastic. Long Pigs has won countless Independent film festival awards, if you are a fan of horror, this film is worth watching.

John - There were only a few things that I saw with this film that I would change. While the ending of the movie was good it did become a bit predictable towards the end. As well I thought there was a bit too much closure at the end as you see what happens to all the characters you met through the film ala Animal House.

I did enjoy this movie and they say never leave until the credits are done, well this is no exception. No, there isn’t a special surprise after the credits, but there is a conversation between Anthony and a radio show host, who interjects some points during the movie, that says to Anthony everything you would want to say to cannibalistic serial killer

Rob -  Yep John, I agree about the ending. The ending is predictable but I actually enjoyed the Radio interview during the credits, I thought it gives you both sides again...the Radio host expresses his disgust while Anthony claims he is reformed and looking to put out a cook book. Anthony continues to charm even to the bitter end.

I highly recommend this film. We are submitted numerous films to review, some are very good while some are just awful. Long Pigs is one of my favorite films of the year. It just stuck a chord with me, maybe I'm crazy but I just found the film to be fun, creepy and it came across different for me. Huge thanks goes out to Chris Power, Nathan Hynes and Anthony Alviano, as they have all given this film a heart and made us all a little hungry for some Long Pig Stew.
