Our Hauls of the Week! (Sept 27) DVD's, Bluray's, Tattoo's Plus What Did I Build??

Greetings and a howdy from the Dimension compound. Hopefully your week is going great. Like many, I have been caught up in the Pope visit. Its one of those things that I'm just enjoying watching on TV, not in person. A lot of people down in Philly and I'm just happy sitting at home, minus all the crowds.


OK, let's get to the horror:

Mine/Kim's tattoo's

On Sept 18th, I turned an elderly 45 years old. While it still doesn't register as being 5 years away from 50, I have just been enjoying life, especially this past year (probably the best year of my life). For this years birthday, I had decided to take the artwork that Godzilla designer/artist Shinji Nishikawa sketched for us at Monster-Mania and make it a tattoo. I called my boy, Buz Hasson from Explosion Tattoo down in New Castle, Delaware and give him the lowdown and he was happy to hook me up. After 3 hours of sitting in the chair, Godzilla is now permanently on my arm. You can also see, Kim got the Little Godzilla sketch tattoo'd on her arm also. We are both extremely happy and already made appointments for November to go back.


Let's move on tho the loot...I haven't been grabbing much as we are prepping for Monster-Mania in Hunt Valley, MD next weekend and we just had "back to school" shopping (and thats never cheap for a 15 yr old). I am, however super happy with what I did grab:

Spaced Invaders, The Deadly Spawn, Mad Monster Party, Return of the Swamp Thing and The Stuff. As you can tell, my tastes have changed for this month and I'm watching more schlocky horror stuff. More like B movies, especially when you add Swamp Thing into the mix.

Speaking of Swamp Thing, I've really been watching a lot of the older USA series. It's like Hammer Horror's drunken, more immature brother....sort of.


I feel like the best deal I grabbed was Mad Monster Party, especially since that's typically $20 Bluray that I've stared at tons of times debating if I was gonna grab it. This time it was only $7!! Super happy and excited.

Let's talk arts and crafts....the last few years I have been all about making things out of nothing. Cardboard, glue, foam, old crap that we don't want or need and stuff from the dollar store. I have expressed my love for Drawless animation and even used some in Mortimor Tromblay (now available)


I had made a Power Rangers helmet from cardboard and it was too small to fit my melon. I decided, hey, let's cut it up and see what happens. I took an old mailing tube, glued it to some cardboard and made myself a stand.





Then, I took some foam that Kim was using (as she has been trying to make

a Godzilla suit to cosplay in...that still hasn't happened). One of her earliest attempts was just sitting and instead of wasting the foam, I hacked, cut and started to glue it together. I decided to make some sort of puppet monster thing...kind of feeling it out as I went. If you follow the pictures, you can see it kind of taking some shape. This is my 1st attempt at building my own puppet. Weird right? Considering I use puppets and all kinds of oddities in my films.


I finished the shape and now need spikes and more actual shape plus, I ordered latex and some cheese cloth for look and feel. They came yesterday (Saturday) but I had already started on a new project so it got put on the back burner. Not for long, but at least a few days.


You can see some shape based off the silhouette that we are on our way but I have a lot of work to do still. Latex isn't cheap and since this is my 1st, I don't want to waste it. I will keep people updated as things progress.


I plan on updating again this week with what else I made. I'm proud of this one but figured I can do some videos and a discuss a bit more in-depth. Take care and enjoy your week!!

No Clowning Around trailer releases

“…you can give in to depression or fight back”

Those are the words that I feel best can describe my battle with depression. About six months ago, I looked in the mirror and decided to make a change. My life was in a downward spiral and from that experience came; “No Clowning Around”. We can never win the battle against depression but, I believe, we can look into its eyes and face it, head on.

“No Clowning Around” is a Horror short film based on one man’s fall from grace. Ed, who once was beloved by his hometown as Mumbles the Clown, is now a party clown who battles depression and addiction. His last shed of light in his life is Trixie, who has struggles of her own. Being pushed from all sides, who and what will stop the endless spiral of sadness?

How did this come about?

Some might know me from Late Night at the Horror Hotel, Pro Wrestling, Monster-Mania Radio or the Extreme Odd Couple Podcast, but I really feel I developed the creative bug from reviewing movies. I’ve always loved the horror genre but I felt I wanted to be a bigger part of it. When you review movies, you expose other’s vulnerability but now, I’m the vulnerable one.

The last year I’ve learned that exposing my life can have a good affect on others. I had a rough battle with depression about a years and a half ago. Maybe it was my mid-life crisis, but home life was bad, I had no direction and from that, came this film project.

The film is personal for me, even though it’s extreme in relations, it’s still has plenty of metaphors to my own life. The process only took me about two days to write and once on paper; I knew this was the movie I wanted to make.

What is this NOT?

I'm glad you asked...this is NOT a Killer Clown movie. I've wanted people to know that from the start. There are plenty of Killer Clown films out there...like 100 Tears, Fear of Clowns, Killer Klowns from Outer Space or even Killjoy. While Ed is a clown, that's not the story. The story is about being pushed...and finally having a breaking point. Sometimes when your back is against the wall, you have no choice.

How did you chose who is involved?

I wrote about a 15 page treatment, kind of like a sketched out script, but just the basics. The first person I showed was my Wife, Kim. Kim and I have been together for over 21 years and it was important for me to make her the Trixie character. Once you see the film and I can relate the two, you will see why. She rehearsed countless days and worked very hard, it paid off.

The next person I wanted involved was Steve Corino. Corino is easily my best friend, from offering me a place to stay, to always being there when times were tough. We both helped each other during rough times..you know how misery needs company sometimes? Well, he’s my misery partner. The role of Lenny was his as soon as it was written. He took it extremely serious and made sure he was not the typical “wrestler in a movie” role. He’s believable.

Matthew Burd was the next choice, since his work on Late Night at the Horror Hotel; he proved his artistic vision to me on that project. I sent him the story and he wrote the screenplay and I could see the movie from his expressive script, I loved it immediately. Matt has included myself in several of his previous short films including Cuts Right Over that is making the rounds on some film festivals now. Matt and I worked great together and we each had ideas and it made for a smoother shoot. Very happy he wanted to be a part of it.

Sal Valente was a later addition to the project. I sent him the script and he loved it. Some will know Sal from his work as Pigamortis from our show. We have good chemistry, he’s funny and I knew he dug the project so it made perfect sense to have him aboard.

What can we expect?

We are aiming for a December release. It will be available on DVD, plus we will have a Limited to 50 VHS release. I will be focusing on Film Festivals and trying to have as many eyes on this project as possible. Debating on how well this is received, will lay out the future. Ideas are about a feature or a possible sequel short for “Mumbles”. I think that the character has enough oddity and is relatable to many that he has some likeability and a future.

I really want to thank those that have helped donate to make this possible. You truly made a boyhood dream come to reality. I also want to thank those that helped, our crew, those who offered advice and those who listened to me complain. It was a long four days, being on set for sixty hours, but I know it will be worth it. I’m proud of this.

Saw 3D reviewed - Want to play a game?..do you still really care?

Let me start this off by letting all you readers know that I am not the biggest fan of the Saw franchise. That being said, I am a huge fan of everything horror and after being pushed into the theater by my wonderful fiancé, I decided to give Saw 3D a chance. 

I think the biggest problem I’ve had with the franchise is how unreal the films seem to me. For instance, in the first film all the good doctor has to do is shoot someone he’s never met to save his life and the life of his family. That’s too easy, and I don’t see any humans besides monks and nuns not pulling the trigger. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d react differently in certain of the franchises situations. 

That being said, I’ve always been a fan of gore, and the Saw films always have a good share of violence, blood and guts. Saw 3D is no exception; the violence is plentiful and often humorous, besides the occasional pinkish tinted blood which sent me into a fit of hysteria. The film will keep most mainstream gore-fiends satisfied, but fans of underground horror will be disappointed. 

The 3D in the film is a gimmick and was clearly used only to raise ticket prices, which always pisses me off. The effects are super cheesy, and after a TERRIBLE opening scene, add a more comedic element to the film. Honestly, I felt like I was watching a B-movie, when I knew the budget behind this behemoth was astronomical as always. 

The filmmakers behind Saw 3D were in it for one thing, and one thing only; money. They clearly don’t care about intelligent audiences or keeping the franchises fans pleased. They threw in scene after scene of random 3D deaths, terrible acting, and a horrible plot. This film contains one of the worst screenplays I’ve seen produced by a mainstream studio in a long time. The actors all seemed like the only prior experience they had were bad pornos and films even my good friend’s over at Troma wouldn’t put out. 

This film reminds me of an ideal I was starting to loose sight of. Independent filmmaking is a must to keep cinema out of the trashcans and into the minds of intelligent moviegoers. As more and more of these terrible big films are being put out everyday, it is time for us as moviegoers to demand more from the studios.
